Inaugural ISH Shanghai & CIHE show concludes with strong industry participation
Fringe programmes played a pivotal role in the public’s industry awareness
ISH Shanghai & CIHE – Shanghai International Trade Fair for Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning – concluded its inaugural show, held from 26 – 28 September 2012 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The show ushered in a new opportunity for HVAC professionals to tap into the growing market for individual heating solutions across East and Central China. Organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd, Beijing B&D Tiger Exhibition Co Ltd and Shanghai Pudong International Exhibition Corp, the fair played host to 164 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions. Over 8,000 sqm of exhibition space was utilised during the three-day event, and visitor numbers totalled 8,326.
Mr Richard Li, Deputy General Manager for Messe Frankfurt in China noted: “We developed the Shanghai show with the goal of popularising the utilisation of HVAC products and technologies to more regional markets which traditionally have not been covered by central heating supplies. The East and Central regions have become increasingly cold during the winter months, and with more than 150 million affluent households spread across both regions which can hopefully breed huge new consumer groups for HVAC products, we believe the time is right to introduce the HVAC show to this market. Because our exhibitors trust the ISH brand, and recognise the level of professionalism our shows bring to all of our exhibitors and visitors, I believe ISH Shanghai & CIHE had an exception inaugural show.”
Mr Li Hongbo, General Manager of Beijing B&D Tiger Exhibition Co Ltd added: “Based on various discussions I had, visitor attendance, especially to our fringe programmes, was strong for this year’s show. While the fair was geared primarily towards the local market, we also had keen interest in solutions our exhibitors displayed from a number of overseas individuals and companies. Through this fair, I believe we’re setting up our exhibitors with a wealth of opportunity.”
Exhibitors and visitors praise the growth of the region’s HVAC market
“We think the development of East China HVAC market will bring great business opportunities to HVAC companies. Through this show, we hope to find new agents, establish our brand and enhance our business in the Eastern China market. This time we introduced our three main products, De-Dietrich Wall-hung Boilers, the concept of “Baxi British Seneschal” and BROTJE. The concept of “Baxi British Seneschal” received high attention. We are satisfied with the visitor flow of this show and will continue to support ISH Shanghai & CIHE next year,” commented by Ms Lisa Song, Marketing Supervisor, BDR Thermea (Tianjin) Co Ltd.
Mr Francesco Fabbro, Export Sales Manager of Radiant Bruciatori SpA said: “Our company has been involved in boiler production since 1959. We're very big in Europe, and also have a strong distribution partner for the China market. Our main goals for coming to the Shanghai fair was to support our domestic distributor, and help build better understanding of our quality boilers in the East and Central China markets. The booth quality at the show is very impressive, and visitor flow seems to be exceptional.”
TempRite Engineered Polymers, a partner of Flowguard USA , attended the show in order to introduce piping manufacturers to its unique raw material. Mr Wu Fan, Market Development Manager stated: “We provide chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) material for use in a range of applications. For the HVAC industry, our raw material is utilised in making piping for gas and water distribution. The ISH brand is highly recognisable. The Shanghai edition seems to have brought together a number of high-quality visitors and exhibitors. The East and Central regions of China are still developing with regards to new forms of heating products. We came to the show mainly to introduce the benefits of CPVC to other manufacturers, and ISH Shanghai & CIHE has definitely provided the platform for that.”
For Mainpex Heizung and Sanitaer, a division of Maincor Group, ISH Shanghai & CIHE was an opportunity to introduce a product that has become synonymous with quality HVAC piping in Europe. Mr Ewald Kuijper, Export Sales Manager explained: “Our latest specialty is a series of multi-layer composite pipes that carry 50-year working guarantees. We did our research, and found that with the increase of affluent homes in East and Central China, our product would spark great interest within this market. Shanghai is the centre of the regions’ heating economy. We’ve met great, qualified buyers at the show, and I look forward to following up with them after the show.”
For exhibitors offering finished solutions to end users, the show offered the opportunity to connect with qualified local distributors to grow local market share. Jaga Radiator (Shanghai) Ltd, was one exhibitor who came to the fair to showcase their expertise in radiator development, eco-friendly design and sustainability. Mr Jan Kriekels, Director of the company said: “We are a 50-year old producer of radiators, heat pumps as well as full home intelligent systems. Over one million units of our products are in use around the world, and we believe China will become our largest market in the near future. We made excellent contacts at the show, and we were able to get better ideas on the different needs of heating professionals in the region. We will come back.”
For Ms He Dan, representative from G.U.T Baumaterial GmbH, ISH Shanghai & CIHE was taken as an educational experience to learn about the market potential in East and Central China. She expressed: “The results of our participation at the fair have been good. We met manufacturers and distributors from the HVAC and plumbing industry. Since our product, a 3-in-1 temperature control system, is the only one of its kind in the fairground, we attracted lots of attention.”
Mr Wang Wenhua, Vice President of sales, Zhejiang Huayuan Electric Co Ltd, stated his company exhibited at the show in order to promote its series of electric floor-heating solutions. He added: “At the show, we found lots of potential distributors, agents as well as old and new clients in property development. We are greatly satisfied with our booth location and the orientation of this show is in line with our main business. We would like to join ISH Shanghai & CIHE again next time.”
The informative feature of ISH Shanghai & CIHE was attractive to visitors. For both local and overseas attendees, the show allowed them to see where the demand for HVAC products was in the local market, who were the main players and ultimately how their business can benefit from the available opportunities.
Mr Igor Duzenko, Chief Engineer, Frunze Plant JSC, came to the fair to find manufacturers of valves and piping equipment for use in his production business in Ukraine and China. He explained: “The show was good, I was able to meet with some qualified suppliers with excellent quality products, and I intend to follow up with them. It's a good show for this regional market.”
Mr Luo Yun Hua, Head of Sales, Shanghai Zhouchuang Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Co Ltd noted: “Our business focuses on ventilation engineering. Being an industry player, it is important to come to a show like ISH Shanghai & CIHE to learn more and network with industry peers. There are unique products and technologies in the various booths that are very worthy of learning more about. I achieved my objective here by the second day.”
Mr Ravindra Kumar Singh, Chief Projects & Development Officer, Fortis Healthcare Limited commented: “I think it’s a very good show and I learned lots of advanced technology on the heating industry. Our company is a leading integrated healthcare delivery provider in the Pan Asia-Pacific region. The reason for visiting this show was to look for heating products which would be used in hospitals and primary care centres across India. I will be here again next year.
Fringe programmes played a pivotal role in the public’s industry awareness
Since the integration of heating solutions in property development is a new concept in East and Central China, ISH Shanghai & CIHE offered a series of fringe programmes to share the latest trends to the local market. Over 40 sessions ranging from floor-heating installation, classroom discussions and industry forums took place during the fair.
For the HVAC Classroom discussions, the goal was to share local consumers and industry professionals with the benefits of various heating solutions. Mr Dong Zhongming, who’s a well respected mentor in the HVAC industry, played as the moderator this time. He noted: “The response to the classroom discussions was very good, and met our expectations. People in East and Central China, including industry practitioners and property owners, are not familiar with heating concepts that can meet their needs. They want to know if it’s good, how good it is, what the concerns are, etc. They are very much willing to attend a seminar like this. The Classroom is helpful to both the general public and trade visitors. The positive feedback today gives me motivation that we should continue our efforts with this show.”
HVAC Classroom attendee, Mr Shi Yong, Manager, Jiangsu Xuzhou Danyun Trading Co Ltd shared: “My company is an agent and supplier of building materials and electrical appliances. We plan to incorporate HVAC products into our line of offered products, and I came to acquire more knowledge on gas boilers and water treatment equipments. I have learned so much from the HVAC Classroom. The speakers were excellent and very professional.”
The Conference of China Individual Gas Heating System and its Market Development Strategy – Shanghai Session, jointly organised by Gas Heating Application Speciality Committee of China Civil Engineering Society, Heating and Radiator Committee of China Construction Metal Structure Association and Radiant Heating & Cooling Committee of China Construction Metal Structure Association, also received strong praise from the attendees.
Mr Wu Zhiyuan, President, Jiangsu Koning Co Ltd, one of the conference’ attendees commented: “I came to the forum in the hope of getting more information on individual gas heating and industry demands after attending the conference. Mr Shi, GM of China Marco, gave a wonderful speech and discussion on wall-hung boiler design and model selection. I’m very much looking forward to the next conference.”
