More than half of Korea's retirees are being paid an allowance by their children averaging W330,000 (US$1=W1,091).
According to a survey released by the Samsung Life Retirement Research Center on Wednesday, 55 percent of 1,392 retirees surveyed said they get a monthly allowance from their children.
Their average monthly income is W780,000, including the money their children give them.
The average monthly income of those who get no help from their children is only W540,000.
The average monthly income of those who said they are by and large satisfied with their retirement is W770,000, while the average income of those who said they are dissatisfied is only W420,000.
But other factors also come into play. Those who have a spouse and several children are more satisfied than those who do not.
