Hong Kong - The Green ICT Consortium was out in full force for the “Hong Kong ICT Awards 2013: Best Green ICT Award” (simplified as below: “2013 Hong Kong Best Green ICT Award”) presentation ceremony held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Honoring ICT businesses who contributed the most to the ICT community and society this year, “2013 Hong Kong Best Green ICT Award”, aims to drive ICT businesses to be more environmentally friendly by celebrating green ICT initiatives and those businesses actively working on becoming more environmentally friendly. The awards hope to inspire more pro-activeness in the ICT community on environmental issues. After a rigorous debate and selection process, 12 winners were selected and will serve as models to others for improving the environment and the community in Hong Kong. HKEx Hosting Services of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited stood out from the other winners and was crowned “Best Green ICT Grand Award” winner. Best Green ICT Award commends the best Green ICT designs among all categories and below are some of the awarded projects:
HKEx Hosting Services: green hosting services that provide reliable, enhanced security in an environmentally friendly way
In the past, over 500 brokerage firms operated their own computer rooms, which were crowded and energy inefficient. Launched in 2012, HKEx Hosting Services promotes Green ICT by providing centralized hosting services to brokerage firms in Hong Kong. It allows them to consolidate their ICT equipment, enjoy low latency access to HKEx markets, and improve reliability and efficiency of their business operations. Compiled with Tier-4 and LEED Gold standards, the purpose-built data centre provides professional, reliable and energy efficient hosting services with enhanced security and operations. It does not only provide high quality and reliable services to independent brokers and small brokerage firms in Hong Kong, but also contributes to environmental conservation.
The First Environmental Demonstration School in Hong Kong: Sing Yin Secondary School
Fully funded by the government, Sing Yin Secondary School has become the first Environmental Demonstration School in Hong Kong and provides a template of how a green campus should be. With hundreds of solar panels and an efficient high-tech wind turbine, Sing Yin Secondary School possesses the largest and most varied environmental features of all local schools. The school, together with staffs, students and parents, has put multiple environmental friendly policies into practice. It has even used its own self-developed system to minimize energy wastage. What is more, the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) is used to reduce the energy consumption of lighting and air conditioning in the school. With the E-class system, the school has introduced a paperless classroom and an environmentally friendly learning environment for students and teachers. Sing Yin Secondary School has become an excellent example of how to promote an effective green culture on campus.
Create Your Green Sweet Home: HKC Green Home Solution
It is difficult for individuals and families to create green homes all by themselves. HKC Green Home Solution could be one of the ways to make things easier. By adopting innovative and self-developed HA-Pad with tailor made solutions for paperless systems, energy saving systems and Telemedicine systems, HKC Green Home Solution not only helps individuals to save energy at home, but also provides professional medical care and monitoring services to patients and elderly people through distance consultation. It is a cutting-edge and leading model for creating green home and introducing green concepts to the community.
