Taiwan's top trade promotion body recently signeda memorandum of understanding (MOU) with two trade promotion bodies from southeastern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on trade and culturalexchanges between the two sides.
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) signed the MOUs with the Guangxi-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Exchange Association and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangxi Sub-Council.
The two Chinese trade promotion bodies visited Taiwan with a delegation led by Guangxi's top leader, Peng Qinghua. The delegation were in Taiwan for a five-day visit. Peng was the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Taiwan since Xi Jinping took over as president in March this year (2013).
The delegation was visited Kaohsiung, wherea ceremony was held to unveil a direct Qinzhou-Kaohsiung sea route.
The Qinzhou Port in Guangxi is a main portal for trade between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The direct sea route will allow Taiwanese businesses to enter the ASEAN market more easily, according to TAITRA.
