CMT’s 5th Palm Oil Summit has today revealed their 2013 program line up, featuring distinguished panel of speakers, industry majors and insightful sessions tailored towards examining industry developments and the ISPO mandate in key palm oil producing nation, Indonesia.
To be hosted in Jakarta on August 20-21, the 1.5 day event kicks off with an opening address by Cargill, one of the biggest palm oil players and key contributor of smallholder cooperatives in Indonesia. Its COO, Mr. John Hartmann, will present Cargill’s journey and approach towards sustainable palm oil. As an ISPO accredited oil palm plantation owner, Cargill is expected to share insights into yield intensification as well as environmental, community, employees and smallholder factors that lead to its sustainability success in Indonesia.
A key session by ISPO’s Chairman, Ms. Rosediana Suharto, on Day 1 also reveals vital details on the ISPO initiative. Participants of the 5th Palm Oil Summit can look forward to perspectives on the mandate that is set to strengthen the nation’s palm oil industry on an international sustainable standard, examining the challenges, principles and criteria of ISPO.
Aimed at aiding ISPO familiarity, an optional 1.5 hour workshop on the “A-Z of ISPO Certification” is included in the summit agenda. Led by Mr. Jogani Shashibushan, Business Manager – System and Services Certifications at PT. SGS Indonesia, the workshop equips participants with specifics on background and legal framework of ISPO, its implications, robust certification process, market acceptance and ISPO’s role in reduction of greenhouse gases.
The key concern on yield increment is also spotlighted at the summit. Dr. Thomas Oberthür, Director of IPNI Southeast Asia Program, contributes with a presentation on the concept of intensification for higher yields and plantation intelligence. Additional sessions on developments in palm oil breeding and agro-climatic regimes by PalmElit SAS and Ganling Sdn Bhd reinforce takeaways on higher yield as well.
