BANGKOK, May 28, 2013 – Thailand’s largest mobile operator, AIS, has selected NEC Corporation (Thailand) Ltd. (“NEC Thailand”) to provide mobile solutions based upon leading technology from Cisco. NEC Thailand integrated Cisco’s Aggregation Service Router Series ASR 9000 (for aggregation), ASR 903 (for TDM aggregation), ASR901 (access) Cisco Prime infrastructure for network management and Internet Protocol (IP) for Radio Access Network (RAN) to deliver enhanced, high quality mobile backhaul services.
AIS is the market leader in wireless services in Thailand, with over 37 million subscribers and a market share of close to 54%. Recently, AIS acquired the 2.1GHz (3G) network license and will take full advantage of this new frequency to address the growing demand for mobile broadband and Smartphone data services.
