With a strong Chinese consumer market offering unlimited potential for exhibitors, Interior Lifestyle China 2013 has attracted two new pavilions and four returning pavilions to its September show.

The three-day Interior Lifestyle China will take place 25 – 27 September 2013 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), Shanghai, China. It is organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Ltd.

Ms Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd remarked: “We are very happy to welcome first time pavilions from India and the US to the show. These pavilions have been organised by India’s Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and the International Housewares Association from the US. Both organisations are showing their confidence in China’s fast-growing consumer market.”

The International Housewares Association works on behalf of the industry to bring buyers and sellers together and its pavilion at Interior Lifestyle China will house up to 10 exhibitors.

Mr Derek Miller, the association’s Vice President, International, said the fair is properly positioned to introduce western brands and products to the Chinese market.

He commented: “Interior Lifestyle China represents an excellent opportunity for our members to meet appropriate buyers. Even though our members have been to China to source products in the past, this will be the first organised effort to showcase our member’s brands within the Chinese marketplace. The pavilion participants would like to better understand the Chinese market and the opportunities and challenges that exist. They also want to meet Chinese retail and distributor buyers and other partners who can help them enter the market.

Mr Miller added that it is important for US companies to engage in international business to reach new customers. He said: “The world is now a global marketplace where consumers increasingly have access to the best brands and products. But, to properly reach those customers, product suppliers need to establish proper sales and distribution channels.”

The other pavilion organisers at Interior Lifestyle China are:
• France: UBI France
• Germany: Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology
• Italy: PROMOS
• Taiwan: Taiwan Design Center

Theme for 2013 is “Gift of Life”
Under the theme of “Gift of Life”, this year’s show will again feature the “Store of Happiness” which will be divided into four themed gift sections – Fashionable Wedding, Modern Gift, Seasonable Festival and Gift Package.

Ms Wen added: “During last year’s show, we discussed the relationship between design and happiness. As the measurement of emotion, household products have been widely integrated into our life to become a medium of happiness. The ‘Store of Happiness’ is a template and proves that with good design, even household products can become a valued gift item.”

She further explained the changes in attitude to gift giving in China. “Household gifts are now becoming popular wedding gifts as a substitute for the traditional ‘red packet gift’, she said. “Overseas, the top household gifts for weddings include a red induction cooker by MIJI, stainless steel cookware by WMF, and tableware by Rosenthal. We can see a move in China towards these sort of wedding gifts which will be displayed at the show. Also, the way a gift is packaged is key to its popularity as seen by imported steel cookware in China which is showing that household products can be accepted and valued as highly prized gifts.”

Small sized household products are also becoming popular with Chinese consumers because they offer convenience and individuality. For example, at the show, visitors will be able to view leather iPad covers from Homes-up, an oriental-pearl-tower-shaped candlestick from YAANG LIFE, and handmade soap from TAYOHYA.

Interior Lifestyle China will be held in parallel to Paperworld China, the trade fair for the stationery and office supplies industry. Holding the two shows at the same venue offers buyers a larger range of products to choose from. For more information about Interior Lifestyle China 2013, please visit www.il-china.com
