28 October 2012 – Showcasing the latest fitness equipment, sports apparel, water-sports supplies and outdoor products, the sixth edition of Sports Source Asia opened today and continues through 30 October at AsiaWorld-Expo.
Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and MMI Asia Pte Ltd, the fair has attracted 140 exhibitors from the Chinese mainland, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. They include Hongxing Erke Group, a sporting goods company from the Chinese mainland.
The recent London Olympic Games and other major sports events have helped arouse strong enthusiasm for sports. For mainland manufacturers hoping to expand their overseas business or overseas brand-name companies wanting to enter the Asian and mainland markets, Sports Source Asia can help them establish business connections and explore new opportunities.
Hot Products
A number of exhibitors are using Sports Source Asia to launch new products. These include: Dreamliner putters; waterproof iPhone 4 and 4S cases that allow divers to take smartphones down to six metres; and high-density compression underwear.
The fair also showcases local innovations, including textile technology developed by Professor Li Yi from Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s Institute of Textiles & Clothing. Hong Kong’s elite athletes have worn the high-performance sportswear at the London and Beijing Olympics and the 2009 East Asian Games.
Professor Li discusses high-performance sportswear at one of the fair seminars. Other highlights are sportswear parades, featuring Hong Kong’s athletes wearing the latest sports apparel and accessories. Athletes taking part include Lai Chun Ho, Hong Kong record-holder and a member of the men’s 4x100m relay team at the London Olympics.
Nearly 50 buying missions from 46 countries and regions, counting more than 1,600 buyers, are taking part in the fair.
In the first nine months of 2012, Hong Kong exported HK$30 billion worth of sporting goods, with the United States, Japan, the Chinese mainland, the United Kingdom and Germany the top five export markets.
Concurrent Events
Running alongside Sports Source Asia, Eco Expo Asia and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair offer multiple sourcing opportunities for buyers.
