New original production takes viewers on an expedition to Asia’s allegedly haunted locations to uncover why it’s not ghosts that haunt us, but the past.

ASIA, August 14, 2013 - National Geographic Channel Asia (NGCA), FOX International Channels’ (FIC) leading factual entertainment channel, is launching an original pan-regional series produced in Asia for an Asian audience. Set to premiere in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia on August 23rd, I Wouldn’t Go In There is a 10-part series that sends blogger and urban explorer, Robert Joe (“RJ”) out to investigate the true stories behind some of Asia’s most reputedly haunted sites. Tracking down eyewitnesses, local historians and personalities RJ follows the threads down below the level of superstition and urban legend to uncover real histories; histories that often prove more terrifying than the hauntings themselves.

Tapping urban explorer and filmmaker Robert Joe, to host the new series, I Wouldn’t Go In There follows R.J.’s travels across Asia, who, armed with an insatiable curiosity and a healthy dose of scepticism, seeks out a deeper, often forgotten historical story behind reported ghost stories or haunted locations. The series is exemplary of NGC’s factual entertainment programming as well as the channel’s approach to modern exploration. Through a curious and personable host, contemporary investigative methods, modern technology, dramatic re-enactments and age-old mysteries, this show is storytelling and entertainment at its best while maintaining factual and historical accuracy.

This series is commissioned by National Geographic Channel Asia, produced by InFocus Asia and supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore. It is in line with FIC Asia’s strategy to ramp up its slate of original production, and NGCA’s goal of developing locally relevant returnable series.

For this first season, the production crew spent 6 months travelling to 10 countries in the region filming at some spine-chilling locations such as an abandoned school in Hong Kong, a former detention centre in Taiwan and the ruins of an ancient city in Thailand.

“We are excited to bring I Wouldn’t Go In There to audiences around Asia, and there are plans on the table to produce additional original programming for the benefit of local audiences,” said Mark Francis, Vice President of Production and Development (Asia-Pacific) for FOX International Channels. “I Wouldn’t Go In There is an original idea that we developed internally at the channel and it’s the first of a new breed of stylish, contemporary factual programmes made out of our region. We believe our viewers will appreciate how it puts a fresh spin on the popular mystery and history genres while delivering the insightful narratives National Geographic Channel is known for.”

I Wouldn’t Go In There will debut in August on the National Geographic Channel across Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Robert Joe will lead viewers on adventures through Hong Kong, Okinawa, The Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan and other historically rich places around the region.

I Wouldn’t Go In There premieres on National Geographic Channel on Friday, August 23 at 10pm in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia with a double episode, followed by a new episode to air every Friday at 11pm. For more information, go to www.facebook.com/NGCasia
