Dubai is the host of the 5th Asia Pacific Otology and Neurotology Conference and Exhibition

Dubai – United Arab Emirates, September 19th 2013: H.E. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Asst. Undersecretary for Medical Practice and License in the Ministry of Health in the UAE inaugurated today the first edition of the Dubai Otology conference and exhibition which is held at the JW Marriot Marquis Hotel under the patronage of H.E. Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health in the UAE. The 1st edition of Dubai Otology is held in conjunction with the 5th Asia Pacific Otology and Neurotology conference and exhibition -an annual event that is hosted by a different country every year, and this year, Dubai has the honour of hosting.

H.E. Amin Al Amiri referred in his speech at the opening ceremony to the significant role of this conference and praised the organizers for the outstanding organisation and the impressive turnout.

H.E. said: “More than 40 key note speakers are coming from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Middle East, North Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Pakistan to participate in the Dubai Otology 2013. In return, over 400 Regional & International ENT Specialists, Otolaryngologists, Otologists, Neurologists, Audiologists, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists, Trainees, Nurses and Students are expected to participate. In return attendees can gain more than 30 credit hours granted by the UAE Ministry of Health.”

H.E. continued: “we work hard to fulfil the strategic vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who gives significant emphasis on the healthcare sector and calls for advanced healthcare system and services. Therefore, it gives me immense pleasure to be part of this outstanding event which is the first of its kind in the region. We are always proud to be the first in everything and today is one of those days that I feel so proud to be part of the 1st edition of the Dubai Otology 2013.”

“I am delighted by the number of registered international doctors who came to benefit from the conference and are aware of its vital role. This conference in particular is the first of its kind in the region and the largest. I also consider it an opportunity for specialists in the fields of Otology and Neurotology to discuss and share their expertise and the latest in this field.” Continued H.E. Al Amiri

H.E. also said that the UAE Ministry of Health adopts a comprehensive methodology which focuses on various channels of healthcare advancement including medical education, training and innovation so as to benefit every member of the community.

Dr. Ahmed Al Amadi, the Conference Chairman indicated how important it is to host an event with this specialty as there have been many recent exciting developments in the field of otology and neurotology which are going to be discussed at Dubai Otology this year.

He said: “The scientific program consists of specialized lectures, round table and panel discussions, instructional courses and free paper sessions. The Asia Pacific Conference is also a great chance to meet colleagues from every corner of the world to share clinical experiences and developments and to enjoy the unique culture, cuisine and atmosphere of Dubai.”

Dr. Al Amadi also said: “The organising committee did a marvellous job preparing every detail of the biggest specialised otology event in the region. In addition, more than 30 leading companies displays their new ENT products and services to all delegates for the duration of the conference which will end on Saturday September 21st.

The conference this year will cover recent developments on: Cholesteatoma, Mastoidectomy, Tympanoplasty, Facial Nerve, Ossiculoplasty, Stapes Surgery, Vestibular Schwannoma, Cochlear Implant, Implantable Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implant & Vestibular Function, Auditory Brainstem Implant, Vestibular Prosthesis, Migraine, Anxiety, Vertigo, Meniere’s Disease, BPPV, Skull Base Surgery and The Future of Otology & Neurotology. The Conference will also feature novel researches of ENT Doctors, practitioners, residents and students from different parts of the world through on Oral Free Paper Presentation.

From his side, Prof. John Rutka, Committee Chairman and Professor of Otolaryngology, University of Toronto said that the Asia Pacific Otology & Neurotology meeting has grown over the years to become an international forum for those who practice Otology (external and middle ear medicine) and Neurotology (disorders of the inner ear that includes hearing loss, dizziness and imbalance).

He continued: “Dubai continues to be the major metropolis lying at the cross roads of Asia and the Pacific. Its state of the art facilities, hotels and international airport make it the ideal location for the 5th Asia Pacific Otology & Neurotology Meeting. It is a place that people can come to with ease and also take part in all the amenities that this modern city has to offer.”
