Hong Kong / Southeast Asia, 23 September, 2013 – FOX International Channels (FIC) triumphed at this year’s 65th Primetime Emmy Awards held on 22 September, 2013 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. As Asia’s leading pay-TV network showcasing the best US television programmes to viewers in the region, an incredible 20 awards were given out to 12 shows shown across four of its channels in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia (HK/SEA), including an impressive eight awards in the coveted top-tier categories.
Out of the 123 nominations for a total of 28 shows broadcast on FIC that were nominated for television’s most prestigious awards, the biggest victors of the night were FOX Movies Premium’s (FMP) standout drama series, Homeland, and FOX’s unstoppable comedy hit, Modern Family, each of which took home two top-tier awards. The Simpsons, which is one of FOX’s most prominent programmes and widely regarded as one of the greatest television series of all time, was honoured with the ‘Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation’ award, adding to the dozens of Emmy’s that it has won in its lifetime as the longest-running scripted show in television history.
One of FMP’s biggest hits, Homeland, proved its continued popularity and success with Claire Danes once again clinching the award for ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama’. The award for ‘Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series’ was posthumously awarded to Henry Bromell, for his work on Homeland’s “Q&A” episode, a poignantly fitting tribute to the distinguished and much-loved writer. The highly anticipated third season of Homeland will premiere exclusively on FMP across HK/SEA at 10pm on 6 October, 2013.
FOX’s standout comedy, Modern Family, won the award for ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’ for an amazing fourth year in a row, firmly positioning it as one of the best-loved shows on television. In addition to winning the major comedy award, director Gail Mancuso was also recognised for his ‘Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series’.
Other noteworthy winners include FX’s acclaimed miniseries American Horror Story: Asylum, which led the initial round with a staggering 17 nominations, five of which were in top-tier categories, and scooped the award for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie’ for James Cromwell. Living up to its reputation as the home of award-winning original television, Da Vinci’s Demons also earned itself two awards at this year’s Emmy’s, and the second season is set to premiere on FX in 2014.
Comedies on FX also proved popular, with Nurse Jackie winning ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series’ for Merritt Wever and 30 Rock’s Tina Fey and Tracy Wigfield deservedly taking home the award for ‘Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series’ after the beloved show came to a triumphant end earlier this year.
