Finland will be represented for the first time at this year’s Music China, bringing together the country’s leading sheet music publishers for their first major exposure to the Chinese market. Organised by Music Finland, the pavilion joins 1,630 musical instrument brands and suppliers from 27 countries and regions at the show which takes place from 10 – 13 October at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
Prompted by last year’s success, the Japan pavilion has increased in size by 39 percent and in exhibitor numbers by 37 percent, compared to 2012. According to the pavilion organiser Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), building an overall “Made-in Japan” image is an effective way for manufacturers to expand high quality Japanese musical instruments in China and other Asian countries. Director, Overseas Trade Fair Division of JETRO, Mr Atsuhiko Naoe said: ”We conducted a survey earlier in 2012 revealed that China is the fourth largest musical instruments market in the world, but the spending on instruments per capita is not high, meaning that there is a largely untapped market for us.”
Yanagisawa Wind-instruments Co Ltd is one of the participating exhibitors. Company President, Mr Nobushiga Yanagisawa commented: “Music China is one of the three biggest industry events in the world. We are able to interact with people from all over the world and achieve good sales results in the Chinese and international markets. This show can help us increase our reputation as a high-end and luxury brand in the local market.”
Mr Osamu Saito, President of Korogi Co Ltd is optimistic that buyers will like his company’s new product. He said: “We believe customers will be satisfied with our new and improved vibraphone in FF scale. We want Chinese customers to know the quality of Japanese musical instrument manufacturers. Music China is the perfect place for this and by exhibiting, we can expand our network with teachers, musicians and visitors from different backgrounds.”
In addition to offering a wide range of musical instruments, the German pavilion will feature world-class piano performances. Canadian pianist and composer Dmitri Levkovich, winner of this year’s prestigious German Piano Award, will perform daily at the pavilion. In 2010, he won first prize at the China International Piano Competition in Xiamen, China’s most prominent piano contest, and since then has played in many prestigious concert halls, including the Carnegie Hall, Beijing’s National Center for the Performing Arts, Theatre des Champs Elysees, and the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory.
