Madrid, January 2013.- IFEMA, Madrid's trade fair body, has signed a collaboration agreement with Spanish State Railways, Renfe, within the framework of the International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR, in order to extend the programme of special discounts that the railway company offers exhibitors and visitors to the fairs, conferences and other activities staged at Feria de Madrid.
The agreement was signed by the Executive Chairman of IFEMA, Luis Eduardo Cortés, and by the Chairman of RENFE, Julio Gómez-Pomar Rodríguez, in the company of the Managing Director of IFEMA, Fermín Lucas.
The aim of this alliance is to jointly promote Renfe's railway transport services and the City of Madrid as a tourist and business destination, by supporting the participation of visitors and exhibitors through a series of special discounts on the train tickets they purchase in order to attend the events that take place at IFEMA's facilities throughout the year.
Thanks to this agreement, visitors and exhibitors can take advantage of a 35% discount on the general rates for all classes of travel and all train services, including the high-speed train (AVE), long-distance routes, Avant trains, conventional middle-distance routes and local train services. The aim of this initiative is to support and promote business tourism.
In this respect, in 2014 it is estimated that some 2.8 million people will visit the fairs and conferences that take place at IFEMA, featuring an economic impact on the Madrid Region of some 2,000 million euros.
