This year's GastroNord, May 6–9, will be an historic event as the Bocuse d´Or Europe 2014 will take place at Stockholmsmässan concurrently with GastroNord. Visitors will thus have the opportunity to celebrate with world-class chefs, competitors, national teams and seminar participants – all under one roof. At the same time the Vinordic beverage fair will also be underway.

The Bocuse d´Or Europe chefs’ competition is Europe’s most prestigious gastronomic event, with a total of 20 countries competing. The event, which takes place on May 7–8, will follow the same format as the main event in Lyon: the chefs will have a specified time to prepare a fish dish and a meat dish according to the applicable rules. The 12 best-placed chefs will automatically qualify for the Bocuse d’Or 2015 in Lyon, the world championship for chefs.Sweden's representative, Tommy Myllymäki, will compete on Thursday, May 8.

“It's great that we have been able to get here the world's most prestigious gastronomic competition. Many countries vie to be the host. For the first time, Stockholm and Sweden were chosen, for we can thank the Swedish culinary successes in previous competitions, among othere factors. At the same time, it is a great recognition of us as organizers of professional, inspiring events. GastroNord with Vinordic is now northern Europe’s most important food and beverage trade show. Having the Bocuse d'Or in place reinforces our position even further”, says Daniel Fritzdorf, Event Manager for GastroNord and Vinordic

A selection of GastroNord activities:

SkolmatsGastro – the Swedish school cuisine championship
The aim of the competition is to inspire even better school meals and raise the status of the country's school cooks. Five teams of three cooks will compete in the final. The competing teams must not only cook good food, they must also cope with nutritional and dietary assessment and prepare everything on time before a sitting jury. In the final, the school cooks will prepare three dishes from recipes for at least 100 people, with an average cost-per-meal of less then 12 SKK. First prize is an inspirational gastronomic trip around Europe. The competition, organized by Kungsörnen and Felix, will take place on Tuesday, May 6.

The Barista Cup and Coffee School with the National Barista Team
The 2014 Barista of the Year will be crowned at GastroNord. During the final, the contestants must serve espresso, cappuccino and a signature drink to four judges in 15 minutes, with taste and presentation as the deciding factors. The competition takes place on Friday, May 9. The fair will also feature the National Barista Team and a coffee school.

Breakfast seminars on current topics
GastroNord will also include daily breakfast seminars with the magazines Fastfood, Besöksliv, Restaurangvärlden och RS – Restaurang och Storkök.

The Swedish Pizza Championship will also be decided at the show, and the National Pastry Chef Team will be on hand to give demonstrations.
