“My 3 Days as a Muslim,” produced by Taiwan Public Television Service, was awarded first prize Nov. 4 in the Live-action Television Program category by the adult jury of the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.
“The show depicts how children from different cultures can transcend barriers and bias to become good friends,” PTS said.
“This is the first time that we have been recognized with such an honor after many years of being nominated at the festival,” PTS said. The program, part of a series called “A Different Kind of Summer Fun,” was the only Taiwan work to capture a prize this year, it added.
Other PTS works selected for inclusion this year were “Rainy Day Friends” and “Chip and Dory” from the “Fruity Pie” series, the “Follow Me” series’ “The Young Magician’s Secret,” and “Chinese White Dolphins Fighting for the Oceans” by the Kids as Directors team.
Five nominations is a new record for PTS at the Chicago festival, the organization said.
The CICFF is the largest event of its kind in North America, attracting 25,000 local children, adults and educators annually, event organizers said. It features over 250 films from 40 countries each year, with prizes awarded by separate children’s, youth and adult juries.
The event is “one of the only Academy Award qualifying children’s film festivals in the world,” the CICFF said, adding that it showcases “the best in culturally diverse, nonviolent, value-affirming new cinema for children.” (THN)
