21 March 2014 – The third Lifestyle Expo in Jakarta opened yesterday and continues through 22 March (Saturday) at the Jakarta Convention Center in the Indonesian capital. The three-day event, which features the lifestyle products of some 170 Hong Kong companies, is attracting a wide range of visitors. They include importers, distributors, mass retailers and buyers at mail-order houses, department stores and specialty shops in Indonesia.

“Beyond Indonesia, we expect buyers from Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, among other countries in the region, to participate,” said Hong Kong Trade Development Council Assistant Executive Director Raymond Yip, speaking at the opening ceremony.

Young and Growing Middle Class

“Our focus, to be sure, is on Jakarta, and Indonesia. And for very good reason. Indonesia is Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. It also boasts the region’s largest population of middle-class consumers – some 60 million in all,” Mr Yip noted. “And your middle class is young and growing, with an appetite for the good things in life,” he said.

ASEAN’s Big Spenders

“Indeed, our research tells us that Indonesian consumer spending on non-food items is robust; that spending for such lifestyle products as jewellery, timepieces and home appliances is far higher than elsewhere in ASEAN. Which is why we’re here,” added Mr Yip. “To offer Indonesian business, and consumers, the quality, smartly designed offerings that Hong Kong is known for. Worldwide.”

Stylish Products on Offer

Lifestyle Expo in Jakarta is showcasing stylish products in four categories: consumer electronics, fashion and accessories, gifts and premiums, and household products. In addition, exhibitors are showcasing baby and children’s products, along with and health and beauty offerings. And the expo features a Small-Order Zone, allowing Indonesian buyers to purchase products in quantities as low as 20 pieces. The expo also includes a Hong Kong Design Avenue Display, spotlighting award-winning Hong Kong products from a number of competitions.

Intellectual Property Spotlight

For the first time, an intellectual property kiosk has been set up, to help Indonesian businesspeople learn more about IP trading. The booth spotlights the Asia IP Exchange, an online trading site and resource centre listing over 25,000 IP assets for sale from some 20 countries and regions. Other Lifestyle Expo in Jakarta highlights include seminars on e-commerce and lifestyle design and customised business-matching services.
