(Tainan, Taiwan) A group of young alumni of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, has recently initiated a salon for alumni who are eager to pool their talents to make a difference to the world and help many more juniors to plan for future career.

NCKU Executive Vice President Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su attended the salon on March 15 and said, the young alumni are important asset to NCKU and form a rising force that aids the development of this university.

She also said, many of these young alumni who have participated in numerous big events in the university, are currently showing outstanding performances in their respective careers.

Wei-Guo Li, an engineer at Pauian Archiland who graduated from NCKU in the 97 academic year, co-operated with young alumni members in other fields to establish the “NCKU Young Alumni Industry Community Program” and initiated the salon.

The salon is the first event to be held under the “NCKU Young Alumni Industry Community Program” and many more events will also take place in the university soon, said Li.

The first effort under this program was initiated by Li which offers not only internship positions, but also an monthly salary of approximately NTD 20,000 for these interns.

“The alumni members who we invite into the NCKU Young Alumni Industry Community are those who have graduated between 5 and 15 years,” revealed Li, chief planner of the program.

Focusing on real estate and planning consulting, part one of the event has invited six alumni, including chief operating officer Dio Chiu (Academic Year 89 graduate), executive director Hanwei Tsai (Academic Year 91 graduate), commissioner Yan-Hsin Liu (Academic Year 94 graduate), municipal commissioner Jian-Fei Lin (Academic Year 87 graduate), research and development (R&D) management consulting manager Ren-Mei Chang (Academic Year 88 graduate) and engineering consulting associate Kuo-Chang Shie (Academic Year 90 graduate).

In this event, the alumni members introduced themselves to make themselves and their career experiences known to their juniors, as well as explained in detail the environment and developments in the real estate industry, answering questions such as “What is real estate?”, “What is a construction firm?”, “What is an engineering consultant?” and many other career-related questions.

In addition, they also use their influence in the industry to convince firms to offer internship positions and lead their juniors during internship using the mentor-mentee spirit.

The best way to bridge the generation gap is by inviting young alumni members who recently enter the job market sharing their work experiences on how to adjust working attitude and issues which the juniors might face right after graduation.
