HONG KONG—Engaging faculty in educational fundraising, cultivating young alumni and connecting with donors, students and others via social media are some of the leading topics of discussion at the CASE Asia-Pacific Advancement Conference 2014, which is taking place this week (April 1-4) in Hong Kong.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is one of the largest international associations of educational institutions in the world. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CASE also has offices in Singapore, London and Mexico City.
The conference is designed for professionals working at educational institutions in alumni relations, fundraising, marketing and communications, collectively called "advancement." The conference focuses on advancement at independent and international schools, and institutions of higher education.
Additional topics at the conference include connecting and engaging an international alumni network, benchmarking fundraising performances and building effective corporate partnerships. About 300 participants are attending the conference, which features a notable line-up of advancement experts as well as education leaders.
One of the highlights of the conference was the opening plenary featuring a philanthropy panel comprising guest speakers David Mong, vice chairman of Shun Hing Group and chairman of the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund; Cherry Tse, permanent secretary for education, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; and Yap Su-Yin, CEO, Tan Chin Tuan Foundation. The session was moderated by Bernadette Tsui, executive director, HKU Foundation and director, development and alumni affairs office, The University of Hong Kong.
The University of Hong Kong is the host institution for this year’s main conference. Bernadette Tsui is the chair of the main conference on April 3-4.
Julian Marland, director of development at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, is the chair of the schools program on April 1-2. The Canadian International School of Hong Kong is the host institution for the schools program.
This conference in Asia underscores the growing importance of advancement in the region and elsewhere around the world as institutions work to secure private financial support, engage alumni and attract prospective students.
