The first Taiwan Innovation Match-Making Show is set to kick off May 28 in Taipei City, boosting exchanges between local creative talents and prospective investors, according to Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
Held at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall No. 1, the two-day show aims to enhance the nation’s creative industry, and is in keeping with ROC President Ma Ying-jeou’s determination to support local talents through the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions sector, TAITRA President and CEO Peter W. J. Huang said March 11.
Creativity is one of the nation’s most important economic assets, Huang said, citing an annual average of 220 winning submissions over the past three years at top invention competitions in Germany, Switzerland and the U.S. But only 0.3 percent of these successful entries made it to market, a number far below the global standard of 3 percent, he added.
This is why TAITRA is staging the show, Huang said, highlighting the need to bring inventors and venture capitalists together to exchange ideas and tap into business opportunities,
Six industry pavilions will be set up at the event showcasing Taiwan’s innovation and invention prowess. They feature the themes of biomedicine, cloud applications, cultural and creative design, electronic information, green energy and precision machinery.
Huang said around 150 teams of creative talents are expected to attend the show. These include participants in the cross-industry digital learning project by the ROC government-backed Institute for Information Industry, as well as the Golden Pin Design Award and many other important local creative projects.
Winning submissions from famous design awards will also be on display at the event, spotlighting the design capabilities of Taiwan designers, he added.
Taiwan-based venture capitalists such as Chester Ho, co-founder of Taipei Angels, and Paul S. P. Hsu, president of Epoch Foundation, will also take part in a forum on the challenges facing Taiwan’s creative industry environment. (DF-JSM)
