Widely regarded as Asia’s leading annual exhibition for innovative green-tech business solutions, Eco Expo Asia will once again be held at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong from 29 October – 1 November. Offering abundant business and networking opportunities for the green industry players across the globe, the annual show is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, with co-organisation by the Environment Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Mr Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment of the Government of HKSAR commented: “Eco Expo Asia provides not only a first-class selection of green solutions, but also offers a series of engaging forums and seminars with leading experts. It is an exceptional industry platform which promotes dialogue and idea exchange among international enterprises, government officials, buyers and people who care about the environment.”

The 2014 edition will focus on the latest green-tech solutions and products for all parties concerned with reaching a greener future across Asia. Highlighted themes at the show will include Waste Management & Recycling, Green Building, Energy Efficiency & Energy as well as Eco-friendly Product.

2014 fair draws leading industry players and international participation

To draw the participation of the international community to the fair, a networking luncheon, focused on the theme “Creating a Sustainable City: Use Less, Waste Less”, was held in late March. More than 80 representatives from consulates, business chambers, trade associations and leading companies attended. They were also joined by a delegation from Malmö, Sweden led by the City Mayor, Ms Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh. Attendees were able to obtain the latest insights on business opportunities in the emerging Asia green market from the sharing by the guest speakers Secretary Wong Kam-sing and Mr Randy Yu, General Manager from Sino Land Company Limited.

Known for attracting government officials, quality buyers and commercial enterprises across the Asian region, Eco Expo Asia continues to be the designated platform for global leading exhibitors to showcase their green solutions and products. Companies such as MOBA Mobile Automation AG, a leading company in waste collection and management from Germany has once again confirmed their participation at the 2014 show.

Additionally, countries, regions and business associations such as Germany, Japan, Russia, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK and the Green Technology Consortium are all currently in the process of compiling their respective pavilions for the 2014 show.

A wealth of green opportunities in Asia’s fast-growing environmental protection markets

Buildings are currently the biggest energy consumer and the second largest emitter of carbon dioxide. The impact of increased greenhouse gases has led governments and policy makers across Asia to encourage the rapid development and demand of green buildings, which estimated to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of nearly 30%. The increasing demand for green buildings and infrastructure is also expected to benefit other market participants from a market size worth USD 670 billion in 2015, a 190% increase from 2011.

In conjunction with the environmental concerns across Asia, currently environmental protection is one of the Chinese Mainland’s key development focuses. The State Council of the People’s Republic of China’s recent policy requires the nation’s green industry to achieve an annual growth rate of 15% or higher in the next two years. By 2015, green-tech related businesses in the country are expected to have an output value of USD 720 billion.

Additionally, waste management is one of the biggest environmental issues in Hong Kong. The city currently generates 1.36kg of domestic waste per capita daily, nearly 0.45kg more compared to other areas across Asia with similar economic developments. With landfills in the region close to saturation status, the Hong Kong government targets to reduce the city’s disposal rate to 40% by 2022.
