• More than half a million questions are answered within five days
• The average improvement rate exceeds 22.3%
SINGAPORE - 8 Nov 2012 - The primary school children of Singapore have collectively answered more than 650,000 questions on Smartest Singapore since the event began last Sunday. Children have also made significant average improvement exceeding 22.3% after playing more than 60 games.
Samuel Chua, a P5 student at Rivervale Primary School who has played more than 200 games and made an improvement rate of 57.5%, said: “Smartest Singapore allows me to know a lot more knowledge. I learn something every day and I know where my mistakes and weaknesses are. It is fun, exciting and a wonderful learning experience for me.”
Samuel’s parent, Daniel Chua, said: “Smartest Singapore 2012 is a very good event which allows my child to learn and know a lot more on English, mathematics, languages and general knowledge. It also supports the school's charity.”
The improvement rates of children on Smartest Singapore have been analysed and showed significant figures. The rate is worked out by comparing the average score of a child’s first twenty games with that of their last twenty games.
For children who have played 60 to 120 games, the average improvement is 22.3%. For children who have played 120 to 200 games, the average rate is 30.4%. Meanwhile, children playing over 200 games get an average rate of 42.6%.
Mrs Maggie Lim, parent of Marcus Lim – a P5 student at Nanyang Primary School who has made an improvement rate of 48.7%, said: “The games have helped my son improve his mathematics in terms of speed and accuracy. This game also has enriched and widened his knowledge of Singapore and other countries’ geography.”
Smartest Singapore is organised by Skoolbo and supported by Samsung, Microsoft, Collins, F&N Magnolia, Swensen’s, Bioglan, ArtScience Museum, the Star Vista and the Media Development Authority of Singapore. Children will compete in 100 second speed challenges in languages (English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil), mathematics and general knowledge via a specially modified version of the Skoolbo learning game engine.
Smartest Singapore 2012 commences with a preliminary online competition from 4 to 28 November. The top 100 participants from each age group will be invited to the Semi-Final at Marina Barrage on 1 December. Subsequently, the top two participants from each age group will join the Grand Final at NTUC Auditorium on 3 December.
Charity is an important component of Smartest Singapore 2012. For each entry registered, S$5 will be donated to nominated charity of the school where the pupil comes from.
Each champion will win a three-day trip to Hong Kong Disneyland with his or her parent. The second to eighth runner up in each age group will win a Super Explorer card that grants the child and the parent unlimited access to the top twelve most much-loved attractions in Singapore such as Night Safari, Underwater World & Dolphin Lagoon, Singapore flyer, etc. in three consecutive days.
