Singapore, 1 June 2014 –( ASIA TODAY )– NEC Asia Pacific, a leading infocomm technology provider, today announced the completion of Singapore’s first Safe City Test Bed initiative spearheaded by the Safety and Security Industry Programme Office (SSIPO), a strategic alliance between the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The year-long Safe City Test Bed initiative with Orchard Road as the test bed location, has successfully tested innovative solutions and developed patent-pending technologies which include highly accurate facial recognition video analytics, NEC’s Media Analytics Platform, cross-site monitoring capabilities, authentication and digital signatures for video streams, as well as NEC’s Pervasive Display Network, amongst others.
The Safe City Test Bed technologies tested and developed include:
Media Analytics Platform
The Media Analytics Platform enables multiple analytics engines to be plugged in, providing multiple sources of analytics and sensor data to identify, comprehend and anticipate an incident. Analytics engines can monitor visuals, sound, smell as well as temperature to identify abnormalities, so as to trigger alerts to ensure public safety. Applications for this technology include using it for flood monitoring, rubbish monitoring or ensuring safety at a public event.
Cross-Site Monitoring and Identification Capabilities
Facial recognition video analytics used in combination with location-aware analytics can enable cross-site monitoring capabilities. The first such innovation of its kind, the technology can be used to monitor, identify and track targeted persons across different cameras at different times through the correlation of data. With the ability to correlate data and incidents, fewer cameras are needed to track a person within a city.
e-Evidence Technology
The e-Evidence technology creates a digital hash to authenticate video streams and signs a digital signature based on a certificate-based algorithm, which can be embedded in cameras. Under Singapore’s Evidence Act, the technology can ensure data non-repudiation, and can be used to add weight to evidence, to prove that content presented in court has not been tampered with.
Pervasive Display Network
The Pervasive Display Network enables agencies to tap into unconnected digital displays from different owners to display a centrally controlled and consistent public emergency message in the event of a crisis. Use cases for this include fire, flood, traffic jams and accident alerts.
“We deeply appreciate this opportunity from EDB and MHA to test bed our technologies in a live environment. Having tested and gained live feedback on the technologies, we have developed new operational capabilities to improve response time in assessing critical situations, as well as to better enable inter-agency collaboration. We are committed to investing and developing innovations to build safer and more livable cities for governments and citizens in Singapore, as well as globally,” said Mr. Tan Boon Chin, Managing Director, Global Safety Division, NEC Corporation.
Central Research Laboratories (Japan), NEC Laboratories Europe and NEC Laboratories Singapore had contributed to creating the test-bed of safe cities technologies.
