The Ministry of Health (MOH) will be conducting the National Health Surveillance Survey from November 2012 to June 2013 to gather information on the general health status and lifestyle practices of Singaporeans. The results of the Survey will be used by the Ministry to monitor the health of the population, track progress towards national health targets and for planning and evaluation of health promotion programmes and health care services.
2 Eighteen thousand households have been randomly selected to participate in the Survey. These households will receive a letter from the MOH informing them of the Survey. Survey participants will undergo an interview about their health and lifestyle habits, and have their height and weight measurements taken in the convenience of their homes. Individual information collected for the Survey will be kept strictly confidential and only aggregated data will be published. The Ministry hopes that selected households would give their full support and cooperation for the Survey.
3 An independent research company, Market Probe Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd, has been commissioned to carry out the Survey. Interviewers from the company will wear an identification tag bearing their name, photograph and the company’s official stamp when conducting the Survey. They will also carry a letter of authorisation from the Ministry.
4 This is the third National Health Surveillance Survey carried out by the MOH. The first was conducted in 2001 and the second in 2007.
