Singapore, 19 June 2014 -( ASIA TODAY )- The National Geographic Society and Sundance Company will bring audiences from Singapore and the Asian region even closer to their team of world-famous explorers, photographers, filmmakers, scientists, and adventurers through a rich public programme of speakers presenting their stories at the Esplanade Concert Hall this coming August and October. As part of the Society’s mission to inspire people to care about the planet, National Geographic Live comes to Asia for the first time to present two extraordinary adventurers who will share their amazing stories in an interactive presentation that promises to captivate, enliven, and motivate.
Behind every great National Geographic story, there is a storyteller who travels to the wildest places on earth to bring home epic tales of adventure and discovery. National Geographic Live’s Singapore series will feature two speakers – David Doubilet and Bryan Smith on 25 August and 9 October 2014 respectively.
The debut of National Geographic Live in Asia was made possible by sponsorship from National Geographic Channel, Nanyang Technological University, Quotient TravelPlanner, and Fullerton Hotel Singapore. These partners have joined with National Geographic Live to make the featured speakers accessible to the curious minds of audience members and in turn, make them more sensitive towards the geographical and social issues around the world, without even leaving Singapore.
The series will open with Coral, Fire, & Ice: Explore Secret Underwater Worlds, which follows legendary underwater photographer David Doubilet as he exposes the audience to the glittering beauty of the world’s ‘coral triangle’ and the lure of sculptural icebergs and shipwrecks in the icy waters of Antarctica. In Extreme Adventure on the Edge: Vertical Feats and the Man Who Can Fly, intrepid filmmaker Bryan Smith shares gripping, behind-the-scenes moments from his assignments documenting extreme feats in the world’s most challenging environments.
“We are excited to introduce National Geographic’s explorers and adventurers as storytellers in their own right through a fresh new presentation series at the iconic Esplanade Concert Hall. Through a combination of speaker presentations and close interactions and partnerships with local organisations, we will cater to and meet this new audience’s insatiable appetite for their journey of exploration,” said Sam Sneddon, director of Sundance Company.
Professor Freddy Boey, Provost of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) said, “This partnership will bring to NTU students and faculty the excitement of scientific exploration and discovery through the eyes of acclaimed photographer David Doubilet and filmmaker Bryan Smith. Sustainability research is a major focus for NTU and we are at the forefront of developing new interdisciplinary knowledge and solutions that make a positive impact on the planet. David and Bryan, who are also dedicated conservationists, will complement NTU’s efforts to educate people about the need to care for our environment. We hope that our students and faculty will be inspired by these master image-makers and come up with even more innovative ideas and solutions to protect our precious planet.”
“Quotient TravelPlanner sees the desire in all of us to explore the world around us, which for many, began when we saw magnificent photographs captured by National Geographic explorers around the world. Today, when we plan itineraries for our clients, it is always foremost in our minds that our clients feel enriched through their travel. We believe that our two brands share a similar goal – to better understand the world we live in through adventure and exploration,” said Lim Hui-Juan, Director and Co-Founder of Quotient TravelPlanner Pte Ltd.
“The illustrious heritage of The Fullerton Hotel which was once home to the General Post Office and The Exchange inspires us to continue to create meaningful experiences for our guests. Poised at the crossroads of the historic Singapore River and Marina Bay in close proximity to The Esplanade, we are delighted to support the National Geographic Live Singapore series by extending our hospitality to the speakers,” says Giovanni Viterale, General Manager of The Fullerton Heritage, comprising The Fullerton Hotel and The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore.
Appealing to those inspired by travel, exploration, discovery – and who value the National Geographic Society’s mission to inspire people to care about the planet – National Geographic Live is for adventurers, thinkers, nature lovers, and explorers of all ages.
