Theme Country of 2014: Malaysia
Each year, TIBF carries out a theme country project to aid the business expansion of the selected country through the show’s promotional and on-site activities.
Comment from Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM):
“As the theme country in TIBF 2014, Malaysia’s objective is not only to expand its book market economically but also to focus on strengthening the cultural bridge between Malaysia and Japan.
This venture is to be carried out through publishing genres which will showcase products that centre on cultural understanding and the thinking of the Japanese and Malaysian societies as well as sharing various tourism-based publications that will explain the wave of Japanese who have travelled to Malaysia in recent years. As the theme country of TIBF 2014, Malaysia will also expect to share the current state of affairs in our nation-building, apart from the Look East Policy that has successfully driven our economy to continue growing, thus igniting the impetus of the vision to become a developed nation by 2020!”
Various events will be held at the Malaysian Pavilion such as Makyung a traditional Malaysian dance known as a “cultural masterpiece” by UNESCO, Kalantan Shadow play performed together with the traditional Japanese puppet show and much more.
