Livstycket is a contemporary knowledge and design center in Tensta, where women from all around the world are active. Livstycket’s textile prints will be on display at the Formex interior design and gift fair, August 13–16, and the creation of patterns for print and embroidery will be demonstrated in workshops. Formex will also feature an exhibition of favorites among this spring's design school graduates.
At Livstycket women from all around the world are taught the Swedish language. Creative activities such as sewing, embroidery and textile printing are combined with theoretical education in Swedish, civics and data processing. The patterns that are created are born from Livstycket’s various projects. The participants draw what they see, feel and experience, and then Livstycket’s professional designers turn the drawings into a pattern.
“With this exhibition we want to show the power of the creative process that is the basis of our business. We want to show that integration is possible, that people can create new roots in their new homeland. Of course, we also want to disseminate the beautiful products that are made, said Birgitta Notlöf, Livstycket’s founder and director.
Livstycket is named after the archaic apparel that was meant to heat and support women. Today, the Livstycket concept has become synonymous with solidarity, pleasure and knowledge.
For the exhibition Design Students Selected by Formex, trend expert Stefan Nilsson was commissioned by Formex to select twelve favorites among recently graduated students from Swedish design schools.
“As usual, I have tried to select the student works that display good quality, a good level of design and relevance to our time. This year's student works are very engaged in contemporary issues. Everything from sports, to selfies and computer games are represented”, said Stefan Nilsson of Designgalleriet.
Participating from Konstfack are Stina Lord, Ammy Olofsson, Emma Ekstam, Henrik Georg Fredberg,
Siri Bahlenberg and Paul Robin Sjöström; from Beckmans Academy: Minna Magnusson, Tove Greitz and Camilla Frick Isberg; from Malmstens: Saina Barazande and Linda Lohland and from the School for Design and Crafts (HDK): Frida Nilsson.
