In a movement towards providing sustainable solutions for India’s wastewater treatment, resource recycling, clean energy, waste and pollution management concerns, Messe Frankfurt’s environmental shows – Watertech India, Wastetech India, Cleantech India and Pollutech India, opened its doors at the nation’s capital today.
The joint inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of eminent personalities from the industry as well as government officials including
1. Mr. Sanjiv Kumar, Secretary (Environment & Forest), Govt. of NCT of Delhi
2. Dr. Sunita Narain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment
3. Dr. Regina Dube, Director, Support to National Urban Sanitation Policy
(SNUSP) India, GIZ (German Development Cooperation)
4. Mr. Ashish Jain, Chairman, Indian Pollution Control Association
5. Mr. Stanley Gomes, Consul & Senior Trade Commissioner for Southern India,
Consulate General of Canada
The trade fair was officiated at the hands of Mr Sanjiv Kumar, I.A.S.
Secretary (Environment & Forest) Govt. Of NCT, Delhi who pointed out that:
“Sewage continues to be one of the major concerns that most cities face today and this difficultly has further expanded with the emergence of unauthorized settlements. Given the overlapping problems with the industrial sector, it is essential to implement sewage treatment technologies at generation level rather than setting up large scale treatment plants. The Okhla waste management plant, the largest integrated waste to power project in India, is now online and is one of the many steps undertaken by the government to address this important issue.
Agreeing with Mr. Kumar, Dr Sunita Narain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment stated that: “The country needs to look at building an efficient sewage network and think of waste as a resource. Re-invention of flush toilet can be the key to sanitize waste and use minimal water. A report across 72 cities pointed out that most citizens today are unaware of where water comes from and where does your waste go. A systemic shift is needed to create awareness among citizens. “ She further emphasised that “Water sanitation not only presents a huge challenge but also an opportunity for the green industry players and encouraged players to bring forward solutions that are not capital intensive but resource efficient to suit the framework of Indian industries.“
Mr Sanjiv Kumar was also seen praising the fair’s integrated exhibition and conference format and welcomed presentations from the green industry players to structure waste water treatment and recycling technologies across the country.
Covering 3000 sqm exhibition space, the trade fair is hosting more than 50 exhibitors from India, Canada, China, Finland, Israel and Spain, showcasing innovative technologies and solutions designed to suit the requirements of Indian industries. The ‘International Conference on Water, Waste Water, Sanitation, Solid Waste management and Clean Energy’ which runs parallel to the trade fair will host a series of sessions over the three days, aimed at identifying solutions to mitigate existing environmental issues and lay down long-term plans for efficient resource management across sectors.
Tackling important issues related to Waste Water Treatment and Solid Waste Management, the conference will bring forward practical solutions that can be deployed by municipalities as well as industries across sectors.
The Conference will also address the subjects of Renewable energy, Pollution Control and Clean Technologies with a Panel Discussion on Low Carbon Technologies for Energy Security.
Additionally, the exhibition showcases cutting-edge expertise from Canada & China through dedicated country pavilions with leading companies presenting key innovations in waste to product, reuse, desalination, water purification, Infrastructure renewal and other sectors.
“Our endeavor to provide a platform to address challenges and provide solutions to India’s environmental concerns has evolved into an influential gathering of professionals, academia, knowledge leaders and policy makers. We hope visitors to the fair derive both, the right tools and the knowledge, to meet their long-term water and energy consumption demands.” said Raj Manek, Executive Director and Board Member of Messe Frankfurt Asia Holding Ltd.
Located in Hall 9, 10 of the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, the environmental shows will run from 10 – 12 September. Admission is free for professionals with a business card.
