Dubai, 30th of September 2014: The Organising Committee of UAE International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC Dubai) announced today the participation of the International Olympic Committee in AEEDC Dubai this year. The International Olympic Committee will also be part of the Global Scientific Dental Alliance and will present a full day program related to Sports Dentistry during the conference.

The scientific involvement of International Olympic Committee (IOC) in AEEDC Dubai 2015 Conference aims for presenting a new field of dentistry and promoting the importance of oral health to protect athletes’ well-being and performance. Members of the International Olympic Committee confirms that good oral health will ensure good function and the ability of the athlete to compete at an optimal level without being compromised by dental disease or an otherwise preventable emergency.

The full day program on sports dentistry is dedicated to general dentists who are looking to expand their practice by incorporating Sport Dentistry into their dental life. The program will also include a session entitled “Transfer of Knowledge”, which will cover several topics such as: “Management of Sport Trauma from an Endodontic Perspective, Mouthguards, Concussion Prevention and Performance Enhancement - Myth or Reality, Connection between Sport Beverages and Dental Disease, Overview and Planning for the 2016 Olympic Games Dental Program in Rio and many more.”

Dr. Paul Piccininni, Director of Dental Services in the International Olympic Committee, comments: “The IOC, through the Games Group of the Medical Commission, is responsible for looking after the health and safety of athletes both during and between the Olympic Games. During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we routinely treat in excess of 1000 dental patients during the Summer Olympic Games, and over 300 during the Winter Olympic Games. In our efforts to ensure a consistent level of dental service from Game to Game, the IOC Medical Commission hosts a Transfer of Knowledge (TOK) meeting every 4 years, which brings together the Dental Chiefs from the past, present and future Olympic Games. These individuals share their experiences from the development of the dental service to the delivery of dental care at the Games. We have chosen AEEDC to host the TOK meeting this year due to its importance regionally and internationally.”

Dr. Paul continued on saying: “During AEEDC 2015, participating dentists in the TOK Session, will enjoy the opportunity to be educated in other aspects of Dentistry. The program at this year's AEEDC meeting promises to provide an excellent educational opportunity for all dentists to improve their dental knowledge. In addition to that, I believe that there is no better place than Dubai to host our meeting.”

On another note, Egypt has joined the Global Scientific Dental Alliance (GSDA): - an annual meeting held during AEEDC Dubai conference and Exhibition. The news was announced last week after the visit of a delegation representing the Egyptian dental association headed by Dr. Yasser Elgendy, Agent Dental Association and VP of the Union, to AEEDC headquarter in Dubai.

The Egyptian Dental Association consists of more than 45 thousand dentists and 30 thousand dental technicians.

Dr. Al Madani, Executive Chairman of AEEDC Dubai and Global Scientific Dental Alliance said: “the participation of Egypt in the GSDA reflects the vital role for the alliance and assures that the alliance is an umbrella for all international dental representatives and a perfect place for experts in the dentistry field to discuss the latest updates in oral health programs and continuous education.”

Dr. Al Madani continued: “the GSDA embraces 65 countries covering all continents, however only 45 counties are active members and the other 20 are observers whom did not join yet. Every year a representative from each country attends the annual meeting held in Dubai representing their unions, universities, dental faculties and their countries of course. The GSDA is at the top of the scientific program for AEEDC Dubai which aims at developing and improving the dental practice all over the world throughout supporting the scientific research.”
