Singapore, 8 October 2014 – The third edition of Oishii Japan will be the largest dedicated Japanese F&B showcase in ASEAN. Strong support from the industry has resulted in its biggest showing of participants, with 266 exhibitors from 32 Japanese prefectures, since the showcase was launched in 2012.

To be held from 16 to 18 October 2014 at Suntec Singapore, the exhibition space will spread across 6,000 square metres, a 50 per cent increase from 4,000 square metres in 2013. It will present an interesting gamut of classic Japanese ingredients, seasonal produces, unique prefecture specialities as well as innovative technology and machinery to boost productivity.

Mr Masanao Nishida, Director of Oishii Japan 2014 said, “We are delighted with the response to this year’s exhibition. We believe Oishii Japan is now the world’s largest dedicated Japanese food and beverage showcase outside of Japan. It is now a key business platform for industry to source for Japanese products, exchange ideas and bridge F&B businesses between Japan and ASEAN.”

Exciting event highlights this year include the workshops and seminars by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) as well as a new themed area – J-Sweets Collection.

MAFF, taking one of the largest pavilions at 150 square metres, will be promoting specialities from selected prefectures including Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Chiba and Miyagi. There will also be green tea and sake bars specially set up for visitors to taste and appreciate two of Japan’s popular beverages. Visitors can also participate in the educational workshops conducted at the pavilion to get tips on how healthy and delicious Japanese food can be easily re-created at home.

J-Sweets Collection will showcase over 40 exhibitors featuring a myriad of Japanese confectionery and desserts including snacks, candies and wagashi (traditional Japanese mochi). This new highlight at Oishii Japan is bound to delight those with a sweet tooth or simply love comfort food.

Industry experts to helm workshops and demonstrations
Oishii Japan will also feature live demonstrations and workshops by new and returning industry experts. Aimed at providing greater awareness and more in-depth understanding of the use and versatility of Japanese ingredients and products, these workshops have always proven to be well-received by trade and public visitors.

This year’s highlights include several experts who had presented last year:

  • A cooking demonstration by Chef Akihiro Maetomo from Chikuyotei, InterContinental Singapore. He will demonstrate using ingredients such as beef from Iwate and rice from Tochigi to make seasoned rice, onigiri and also chazuke. Chazuke is a simple and light Japanese rice dish made by pouring green tea, dashi, or hot water over cooked rice.
  • ‘Creative Dessert with Japanese Ingredients’ workshop by Singapore chef Janice Wong from 2am:dessertbar, on making desserts using peach liquor from Fukushima and konyaku from Gunma.
  • Ayuchi Momose, a certified ‘Sake Samurai’ recognised by Japan Sake Brewers Association Junior Council, will participate in Oishii Japan this year to share tips on appreciating sakes from different prefectures and how to pair food with the sakes for maximum enjoyment.

    Other presenters include

  • Chef Tadao Fujisaki from Tokyo Sushi Academy will conduct a seminar on “Simply Sushi – A Beginner’s Guide to Rolled Sushi” using rice from Chiba and other sushi ingredients from Kanagawa. Tokyo Sushi Academy is a culinary school that specialises in the skills of making Japanese traditional sushi.
  • Hiroshi Nishikawa from World Green Tea Association will share the benefits of green tea and ways to enjoy the drink.

    J-Food Street
A new co-locating themed showcase J-Food Street will be launched to allow visitors to purchase a variety of Japanese food delights.
At J-Food Street, trade visitors and consumers alike can look forward to purchasing a wide array of Japanese small bites, snacks and beverages. Located in Hall 404, J-Food Street provides a casual dining atmosphere to conveniently buy and consume Japanese food. Participating brands for the J-Food Street include Samurice, Sushi Burrito, Nana’s Green Tea, and Annabella Patisserie.
