16 October, 2014 -Hong Kong- The annual event, “Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2014,” (HKICC 2014) organized by the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS) will take place in October 30 and 31 this year at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre . With the theme “Smart City - Let IT go!” HKICC 2014 focuses on the relationship between Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and modern society.
Information Technology is now a vital part of daily life as urban dwellers are exposed to new concepts such as e-Government and e-Health. And so, at the two-day HKICC event, ICT experts will address 9 major areas under the theme ‘Smart City':

HKCS has invited more than 40 speakers from various IT fields to join the conference and have in-depth presentations regarding the above-mentioned areas. Keynote speakers including, Mr. Allan Chiang, SBS, Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong; Mr. Daniel Lai, BBS, JP, Government Chief Information Officer, The Government of the Hong Kong SAR; Mr. Li Jian-ping, Secretary General, The China Smart City Industry Technology Innovation Alliance; Mr. Cameron Fox, STEM Pioneer and Specialist in Hong Kong and Dr. Jong-song Hwang, Head, The Center for Gov3.0, National Information Society Agency, will also lead comprehensive discussions on the significance of Information Technology, and give suggestions to help deal with the rapidly-changing ‘Smart World’.

The presentation will outline the privacy risks generated by the smart and mobile ecosystem, and discuss the special challenges faced by various parties in protecting privacy. The presentation will also include the Commissioner’s enforcement and promotion strategies on protecting privacy in the use of smart devices and mobile apps.
Mr. Daniel LAI, BBS, JP (Government Chief Information Officer, The Government of the Hong Kong SAR): ‘Opening up of Public Sector Information’
Mr. Cameron Fox (STEM Pioneer and Specialist in Hong Kong): ‘STEM Education: Future Economic Prosperity for a Digital City’
As the rapid pace of technological change continues to shape our society, the STEM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are going to play an increasingly important role. This presentation imagines how schools could redesign their curriculum, pedagogy, leadership, and learning environment to meet the needs of the next generation.
Mr. Li Jian-ping (Secretary General, Zhong Cheng Smart City Construction Research Society & National Industry Alliance of Smart City Technology Innovation): ‘National Strategy in Developing Smart Cities in China and Its Status’
The presentation will briefly introduce the smart city in China and the strategies applied. It will then look into the smart city pilot cities in China and their current status. The presentation will also introduce the policy about third time pilot city and specific pilot industry application.

'The Korean Approach to Smart City: the Case of Seoul'
