The 23rd Congress of the International Academy of Legal Medicine kicks off with 994 Participants from 55 Countries

Dubai – United Arab Emirates, 18th January 2015: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the 23rd Congress of the International Academy of Legal Medicine (IALM) kicks off this Monday at the Dubai World Trade Center with 994 participants from 55 countries.

H.E. Major General Khamis Mattar Al-Mazeina, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee, reiterated the unprecedented advantage of hosting this conference in Dubai, and offered his unlimited support along with the Dubai Police crew, while highlighting the significant role for this event as it is an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and enrich the knowledge in the field of criminal evidence and criminology. Moreover, this very specialized event will help stay abreast of the latest international developments in the forensic medicine field.

H.E. Major General Khamis Mattar Al-Mazeina assured that hosting this triennial congress, which is one of the largest events specialized in Forensic Medicine, Forensic Sciences and Medical Jurisprudence, is in fact an opportunity to meet professionals in the various disciplines of forensic sciences in the city of Dubai, to explore the latest developments in the forensic sciences, and to benefit from the workshops held parallel to the congress. This highlights the keenness of the General Command of Dubai Police in developing the scientific capabilities and technical skills of its staff.

From his side, Colonel Fahad Al-Mutawa, Director of the General Administration of Criminal Evidence and Criminology, Vice-President of the organizing committee added: “The total number of attendees reached 994 participants from 55 countries, including 364 scientists, and 6 presidents of international organizations in forensic science and 7 directors of forensic departments in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.”

Latest doctrinal, scientific, and technological advances in legal medicine and forensic sciences will be introduced during the workshops, the advanced courses, the lectures as well as the presentations that shall be held throughout the congress. The scientific program comprises of more than 500 abstracts, 14 workshops, and more than 200 poster presentations, which will be held within the scope of three days of the congress.

The 23rd IALM Congress features an intensive scientific program comprises of more than 125 lectures presented by 55 local and international key note speakers. The program includes several lectures and workshops that cover different topics such as: Ancestry Estimation in forensic anthropology workshop, Crime Scene Reconstruction using 3D systems Forensic Medical Investigation, Forensic Radiology Or Virtospy – Going To New Horizons In Forensics, Facts and Interpretation on Forensics, Applications of Radiocarbon Analysis to Post Mortem Interval Estimation, Challenging Forensic Dogma – Some Illustrative Cases and many more.

A number of high ranked officials and presidents of international associations will honorably add sparkle to the IALM 2015 congress. Some of those prestigious figures are: Michael Pollanen, President of the International Association of Forensic Sciences; Thomas Noguchi, President of the World Association for Medical Law; Vilma Pinchi, President of International Organization for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology; Sherein Ghaleb, President of International Association of Law and Forensic Sciences; Buphinder Singh, President of Indo-Pacific Association of Law, Medicine and Science; and Nak Eun Chung, President of the Asia-Pacific Medico-Legal Agencies, to name a few.

In addition, a number of scientific and academic initiatives will be introduced during the IALM Congress, those initiatives will complement the rich scientific program and will provide an ultimate chance for participants to earn 16 CME Points accredited by Dubai Health Authority. More than 116 medical students from 10 different universities in the UAE are already registered and automatically will gain credit hours free of charge; accredited by the Dubai Health Authority. However, the door for registration is still open for students, to be part of this highly prestigious event.

IALM 2015 is organized by Dubai Police, in cooperation with INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions a member of INDEX Holding and is supported by the Government of Dubai and the Ministry of Interior. The event is also marked with the platinum sponsorship of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Emmar Properties, and the silver sponsorship of Siemens, GE Healthcare, Gulf Bio Analytical, and NAIZAK, and Emirates Airlines as the official carrier.
