SINGAPORE – 19 November, 2012 - Children from 113 primary schools in Singapore have set a new record on Smartest Singapore by correctly answering more than one and a half million questions within two weeks. The top three pupils scored more than 60 correct answers in each 100 second game.
Maheshwaran Windersalam, a P6 pupil at St. Andrew’s Junior School, who is currently at the third place on Smartest Singapore Leaderboard with 3,021 correct answers in 50 games, said: “I am truly endowed with the learning experience as I attempt to answer the questions from various topics. I find the time spent meaningful as it broadens my knowledge. Besides, it is a fitting way to spend my time as I am waiting for the release of my PSLE results. Thank you for creating the Smartest Singapore platform for all of us!”
Smartest Singapore is an online educational event for all Singapore primary school children. Pupils compete in 100 second speed challenges in languages (English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil), mathematics and general knowledge. Children are able to play as many games as they like over the Preliminary Round period with their best 50 scores counting towards the Semi Finals.
Oh Jia Jun, a P5 pupil at Woodlands Ring Primary School, who has correctly answered 2,997 questions in 50 games, said: "Smartest Singapore has improved my accuracy as well as my general knowledge. It is a fun activity that everyone should try. The event also donates $5 to each school's chosen charity which is what many competitions do not have."
In addition, the improvement rates of children on Smartest Singapore have showed significant figures. For children who have played 60 to 120 games, the average improvement is 22.3%. For children who have played 120 to 200 games, the average rate is 30.4%. Meanwhile, children playing over 200 games get an average rate of 42.6%.
