Muscat, Oman, 08 March 2015— The inaugural Oman Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition and Conference (ORPEC) will showcase a two-day conference from the 16th to the 17th of March at the Oman International Exhibition Center.

The Conference at ORPEC has been specifically designed to not only highlight the vital components essential to ensure the successful growth of Oman’s downstream industry but also presents visions, new projects and perspectives on the refining and petrochemical markets and current challenges. An international speaking faculty of renowned experts has been assembled to address these key themes.

One such challenge that will not be shied away from is the current market volatility in terms of oil price and working with a disrupted status quo. Even with the oil price recovering somewhat in recent weeks, Dr. Ed Morse, Managing Director and Global Head of Commodity Research for Citi Group stated last month "Overwhelmingly prices are likely to go down before they really go up. This has been a series of head fakes in the market. Nothing is really sustainable on the reasoning on any of these moves upward." Dr. Morse, one of the world’s leading thinkers, will be sharing his expert insight at ORPEC on how the buildout in the Middle East downstream sector can cope with an oversupplied market.

Maxwell Thompson, Head of Content, Middle East and Europe at the World Refining Association said in a recent press conference “We have very carefully created an agenda that addresses the key challenges in the industry at the moment but also that highlights the vast amount of exciting and lucrative opportunities that are coming to Oman’s downstream Industry. The Liwa Plastics Project has the potential to be a game changer for Oman in the sense of creating value further down the chain. The Oman Refining and Petrochemicals Exhibition and Conference is bringing together Oman’s key downstream individuals and projects with the world’s leading technology providers to create a platform to propel Oman’s downstream industry forward.”

Mr. Thompson’s comments were further emphasized by Dr. Malcolm Cook, Vice President of Business Development for Thyssen Krupp process technologies. “The Liwa Plastics Industries Complex is a game changer for the Sultanate and we are excited to have the opportunity to potentially be a part of the polymers project. We at ThyssenKrupp and our partners and fellow sponsors Linde Group are fully committed in creating in country value and to utilise our unparalleled skills and experience to be a part of the next phase of development for Oman.”

The Oman Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition and Conference (ORPEC) is set to be the flagship event for Oman’s downstream industry. Scheduled from March 16 to 18, 2015 at the Oman International Exhibition Center, the show will provide a venue to meet industry needs and present available business and investment opportunities to companies that cater to the growing petrochemical, refinery and downstream sector.
