SINGAPORE, 11 March 2015 – In a landmark move to encourage and promote the use of design and raise the standard of professional practice among design professionals and those involved in design businesses across the region, the Design Business Chamber of Singapore (DBCS) will sign its first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Vietnam Design Association (VDAS) which is the national body tasked with the development of the design industry in Vietnam.
The MOU will focus on developing a unique Asian identity for design business development and production as Asian businesses are increasingly turning to more ideas and innovations in designs to meet evolving consumer demands as well as align with latest technological, demographic and environmental trends.
DBCS will work with VDAS to promote the Vietnam Design Award (V-Mark) to Vietnamese companies and organisations and to support VDAS in consultancy, judging and training. Further collaboration will see greater synergy between the V-mark and the SG Mark Awards and other international award networks to promote design excellence in both countries.
The MOU will be signed by Mr Tai Lee Siang, President of DBCS and Mr Le Huyen, President of VDAS.
Mr Tai Lee Siang, DBCS’ President said,” Establishing a recognised Asian identity and professional level for design businesses will provide a strong impetus for the growth of Asian design worldwide. With our maiden collaboration with Vietnam, we have made a step in the right direction to promote good design capabilities of design practices beyond Singapore. By linking up our design awards with international design networks, we can also extend the reach and recognition of our awards to a global business audience, which will enable new business growth and innovation.“
The MOU signing will be witnessed by more than 23 top local and global gurus who will be in Singapore for the 2nd annual Singapore Design Business Summit (SDBS) on March 13, 2015.
Some of the world-renowned design luminaries gracing the summit include Mr. Tim Kobe, founder & CEO of Eight Inc, the award-winning strategic design firm with offices in San Francisco, New York, Honolulu, Tokyo, London, Singapore and Beijing; and Prof Dr Peter Zec, President of red dot GmbH & Co. KG and publisher of the globally recognised “red dot design yearbook” and the “International Yearbook Communication Design”.
The three-day conference will also feature a panel of top design experts to discuss the use of design as a tool to enhance business success, the application of design in digital technology as well as the evolution of the design landscape in Singapore and the region.
Mr Tai Lee Siang, said: “We will continue to work actively with several design bodies to drive new design initiatives. We will focus on two key areas – nurturing design talent and certifying professional design standards. He added “This summit can also attract more people, especially the young to have greater interest in design and to take up design as a mainstream career option.”
“Going forward, DBCS will intensify our efforts to create a DesignFuture Forward initiative for designers and the overall design community. This will ensure we have the talent pool to raise our design standards to meet the exacting demands of new global business,“ said Mr Tai.
With its rising stature as a global platform for international design conversation, SDBS 2015 has also managed to clinch a media partnership with the Peak – one of the top luxury business magazines in the region.
