18 May 2015 – The sixth HKTDC Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair opened today with a record of more than 250 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions taking part. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA), the fair runs 18-20 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

This year’s event features an inaugural Canada Pavilion and Taiwan Pavilion. Other group pavilions are the HKMHDIA Pavilion, State of Missouri Pavilion (USA) and Shenzhen Association of Medical Devices (SAMD) Pavilion (Chinese mainland).

Ten sector-specific zones are set up at the fairground to facilitate sourcing activities, such as the Hospital Equipment zone, which showcases specialist electro-medical equipment and medical technology ranging from ultrasound and imaging equipment to anaesthetic equipment and surgical instruments; and the Rehabilitation and Elderly Care zone, which highlights products targeting the silver market, such as patient monitoring systems and orthopaedic equipment.

Other featured zones include Household Medical Products, Medical Cosmetology, Medical Supplies and Disposable, Physiotherapy, Tech Exchange, Business of IP Zone, and the Building Technology and Hospital Furniture zone. More than 1,300 buyers from 24 countries and regions are at the event. They include Comfort Mobility from Australia, Meyra CR from the Czech Republic, Victoria Hospital from Myanmar and Life-Medic Supplies from Singapore. They are keen to source the latest medical and health-related technology, equipment, devices and supplies.

High-Tech

The event is an ideal platform for companies to display their latest high-tech products, which this year include Health Bounce Pod (B Pod) from Active Fun, designed by professional trampoline athletes in co-operation with medical specialists in the field of extreme trauma and accidents. Innovative products developed by Hong Kong companies include B-Free Technology’s versatile lightweight B-Free electronic wheelchair, which can move up and down stairs with ease. Meanwhile, Delta Pyramax is showcasing an electronic toilet seat lifting device for users who have limited flexion in hips or knees.

Taking place tomorrow, the “Seminar on Latest Medical Device Supervision and Administration Regulation Worldwide” will focus on recent updates in the Chinese mainland market and other related developments in the industry. Meanwhile, a buyer forum (19 May) will discuss the business opportunities in the Australian and European markets.
