2,725,288 Total correct answers on Smartest Singapore Preliminary Round

SINGAPORE – 29 November, 2012 – Today children from 118 primary schools in Singapore finished the Smartest Singapore Preliminary Round with a new record of 2,725,288 total correct answers. The top 100 pupils from each category will take part in the Semi-Final on 1 December. There is an average improvement of 42.6% among children who have played more than 100 games on Smartest Singapore.

Mithalina Mohammad Taib, a P4 pupil at Raffles Girls’ Primary School, said: “Smartest Singapore has helped me improve most of my subjects. Now, I am encouraged to find out more about geography. Smartest Singapore is a game which everyone in primary school should participate in as it is fun and very exciting.”

Sanjay Adhith, a P2 pupil at Edgefield Primary School, said: "I enjoy playing Smartest Singapore daily and it is very useful in increasing the knowledge on maths, science, general knowledge and mother tongue. Initially I got more incorrect answers and I corrected myself by reviewing my answers. Now both my accuracy and speed have been improved!"

The improvement rates of children on Smartest Singapore have shown significant figures. For children who have played more than 100 games, the average improvement rate is 42.6%. Among the ten children who have played the most, the average improvement rate is 89.3%

Mikael Mohammad Taib, a P1 pupil at New Town Primary School, said: “Smartest Singapore helps me to improve Chinese language and my general knowledge. I like Smartest Singapore because it is very fun and I want to play Smartest Singapore again next year.”

Smartest Singapore is an online educational event for all Singapore primary school children. Pupils compete in 100 second speed challenges in languages (English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil), mathematics and general knowledge. The event is organised by Skoolbo and supported by Samsung, Microsoft, Collins, F&N Magnolia, Swensen’s, Bioglan, ArtScience Museum, the Star Vista and the Media Development Authority of Singapore.

Smartest Singapore commenced with a preliminary online competition from 4 to 28 November. The top 100 participants from each age group will take part in the Semi-Finals at Marina Barrage on 1 December. Subsequently, the top two participants from each age group will join the Grand Final at NTUC Auditorium on 3 December.
