Metal - and metal related industry: Taiwan’s pillar industries

iMT Taiwan - the only international exhibition in Taiwan dedicated to metal technology – will be presenting latest manufacturing technologies and high function products from 2 - 4 December, 2015.

The metal industry is the foundation of heavy industries. Stimulated by a growing global economy, the demand from downstream industries is increasing.

A large number of Taiwan’s high function products are favored by downstream customers, especially because of the excellence of metalworking machinery manufacturing, robust manufacturing supply chain, and flexible customization capabilities of Taiwanese manufacturers.

The Future of Manufacturing

Driven by highly competitive manufacturers in other countries and mainland China, Taiwan’s metal product industry hopes to enhance the local sector’s innovative capabilities and create new advantages for its products in the global supply chain with the help of smart and fully networked manufacturing. Germany's Industry 4.0 strategy has become a hot topic around the world, also in Taiwan where businesses are strongly focused on skills, innovation, and customization. Taiwan’s manufacturers adopt this development strategy to deal with today’s manufacturing challenges and to overcome barriers to R&D and cross-strait competition.

Steel, Mold, and Die Industry

The demand for steel products in industrial and emerging markets will amount to approximately 1.18 billion tons in 2015, according to the forecast made by the World Steel Association. Globally, the demand for steel products has been increasing over the past years. Taiwan National Statistics announced in August 2015 that local production of billet steel in 2014 increased by 5 % over the previous year to a total of 22.5 million tons as a result.
Taiwan’s metal mold and die industry in particular is on demand due to the constant launch of new products by local and overseas consumer electronics firms. Especially the increase in sales of smartphones, tablets, and cars encourages this trend. Hence, downstream industries keep placing orders with Taiwan for metal molds and dies. Manufacturers in metal- and metal-related industries strive for global export and are very active in developing high-end products such as aerospace and automobile wires.

Industry Clusters to Maximize Benefits

Within Taiwan’s manufacturing industry, metal and machinery manufacturing account for roughly 30% of the total industry, exporting metal and machines in value of $28.2B and $139B respectively. Kaohsiung, a city of 2.946 km² and 2.779 million inhabitants, is home to Taiwan’s No.1 trading port and many major key players in the metal industry, such as China Steel Cooperation. Located in Kaohsiung and therewith in the middle of numerous industry clusters – shipbuilding, heat treatment, steel equipment, metal crafts, pressure vessels and many more – International Metal Technology Taiwan is identified by Kaohsiung City Government as key priority to promote business opportunities in Taiwan and its industry clusters. In cooperation with the Kaohsiung City Government a conference with international speakers and industry experts covering topics like Industry 4.0, Global Trends in the Metal Industry, and Machine Security & Safety, will be held parallel to the trade show at the exhibition grounds on December 3, 2015.

The International Metal Technology Taiwan 2015 trade fair Metalworking manufacturers need advanced manufacturing technology to produce products such as machinery, aviation parts, and medical equipment, among others. iMT Taiwan 2015, the only International Metal Technology fair in Taiwan will present technical innovations and high function products from the metal and metal related industry at the heart of Taiwan’s heavy industry clusters. The exhibit profile includes foundry technology, heat technology, metallurgy, castings, and related fields. A conference with international speakers and industry experts covering topics such as Industry 4.0, Global Trends in the Metal Industry, and Machine Safety and Security, will be held parallel to the show on December 3, 2015. iMT Taiwan is meant to attract exhibitors and visitors from the industry’s entire supply chain and international buyers looking for one-stop sourcing, reliable business partners and ultimately expanding operations. With the support of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, the first edition of iMT Taiwan will take place at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center from 2 – 4 December, 2015.
