Technology, sporting, health and beauty, homeware, furniture, cookware, and food and beverage products selected by specialist retail industry panel
The Golden Pin Buyers Award, a new Special Award established this year under the banner of the Golden Pin Design Award, today announces 45 Finalists products.
The Finalists–selected by a First Round judging panel of four Taiwanese retail industry specialists on Tuesday, October 6, from among the Golden Pin Design Award 2015 Design Mark recipients in the Product, Packaging, and Visual Communication award categories–represent what the jury considers to be some of the most saleable products in the Taiwan market in 2015. Of these 45 finalists, only one will be selected as the Best of the Best winner in a Final Selection judging session held on October 28-29.
In 2015, selected Finalist products run the gamut of in-demand consumable goods, from technology products to sporting goods, health and beauty to homeware, furniture to cookware, and food and beverages. The majority of products come from Taiwan, although the list also features four products from China.
Pocket LED Projector from Delta Electronics Inc. grabbed the attention of the jury with its features–a state-of-the-art touch user interface, 600 lumens of color brightness, and ultra-low-power wireless image transfer capability–and its slimline, light-weight body. Darfon Electronics Corp.’s BESV JS1, a unisex, dip-frame e-bike that takes into account a users riding conditions and pedalling power to intelligently adjust power settings, also won over the judges. Another technology product, MOBI LED Lite by Tong Teng Electric Co. Ltd, addresses multiple lighting needs in one innovative lamp.
Food products deemed highly attractive to Taiwanese consumers include XITIAN MI (Gold & Red), a brand of prestige rice grown in Fuli Township in Taiwan’s Hualien County, which is known locally as the “last pure land of Formosa,” and Fu Chung, a brand that promotes a variety of traditional food stuffs inspired by the unique fare born within Taiwan’s military villages–government housing initiatives that were set up between 1949 to 1960 to house the soldiers and their families that arrived from China following the conclusion of the Chinese Civil War.
Among homewares, some of the products that caught the eye of the specialist jury members include Y2 Stool by Lo Iat Design Co. Ltd, a wooden stool with a structure inspired by the traditional techniques used in the making of bamboo furniture; STRETCH by Kuo Ching Furniture Decoration Co. Ltd, an aluminum and fabric office chair that takes its streamline appearance and load-bearing structure from seat design in the car-making industry; and Hinoki Cutting Boardby Kansan Wood Co. Ltd, a wooden chopping board for the kitchen that makes use of the naturally occurring antibacterial properties of local hinoki, also known as Taiwanese cypress.
Moe Cars USB Flash Drive, a series of flash drives inspired by a childhood love for toy cars by Moe Ideas Creative Studio, and Hancure, a new home-grown brand offering traditional Chinese herbal medicine products that address modern health concerns, also feature among the 45 finalists in 2015.
Final Selection for the Golden Pin Buyers Award 2015 will take place at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 28 and 29, 2015. Three retail industry experts from leading department stores in Taiwan will serve as jury members and will select a single Best of the Best award winner. This winner will be announced at the opening event of a pop-up shop held in collaboration with SOGO department stores from December 1.
The Golden Pin Design Award and associated awards under the Golden Pin banner–namely the Golden Pin Concept Design Award and the Golden Pin Buyers Award–are executed by the Taiwan Design Center and organised by the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
