The 2015 Shanghai edition of the “Intelligent Green Building – IGB” exhibition platform was successfully held from 23 – 25 September at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The Shanghai edition, which is comprised of five fairs, occupied 40,000 sqm of exhibition space that spread across Halls N1 – N4. Over 700 exhibitors gathered to showcase an array of products and solutions related to smart home, intelligent building, building automation, HVAC, lighting and building solar and more. The platform attracted a total of 50,000 trade visitors.
The “Intelligent Green Building – IGB” exhibition platform is an initiative introduced by Messe Frankfurt. By integrating its building technology fairs held in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the organiser aims to establish a cross-sector building ecosystem that provides total solutions for energy-efficient building technologies to meet market demands. The platform also creates more business opportunities for industry players.
Many exhibitors find the initiative to be effective. Mr Mark Walters, Vice President of Strategic Development at the ZigBee Alliance, said: “IGB works fantastically. We not only provide smart home technologies, but we also offer solutions to the smart building, smart city and many other vertical markets. The complementary nature of the five shows works excellently for our organisation and our customers. It is always great to mix up vertical markets so I can learn something new. Co-hosting multiple events across vertical markets makes a lot of sense.”
Nowadays, smart home technologies are a prominent trend across the world. Exhibitors from various sectors agreed that the IGB platform effectively connects their business to others. Ms Lin Peng, Brand Director at Bozon (China) Energy-saving High-tech Co Ltd and exhibitor at ISH Shanghai & CIHE, expressed: “China is at the forefront of the smart home business. It is a great idea to combine smart home, home lighting and similar sectors together in one single platform. We are also in the smart control business and the platform brought us visitors from other fields and potential business partners in collaborating to provide total smart home solutions.”
The effectiveness of the IGB platform is also recognised by representatives from trade associations and leading enterprises. Mr Jack Wang, Marketing Director of Hager Electric Ltd, said: “Both manufacturers and end-users are looking for a more comfortable, convenient and intelligent living environment. I have visited the various fairs here and spotted many interesting products, which are uncommon to see during my daily work. For manufacturer, design institutes and system integrators who are looking for these products, the IGB platform offers a great opportunity for one-stop sourcing and enquiry placement.”
Mr Sun Rui, Marketing Manager of Jiujiang Derui HVAC Co Ltd, a system integrator, commented: “It is great to showcase HVAC, smart home and building technologies under one roof. The heating industry crosses over with home decoration in many areas. Along with the growing popularity of heating supply in East and Central China, the requirements of customers becomes more sophisticated. They look for the integration of lighting, heating and air conditioning for homes. These fields are interrelated and complementary.”
A speaker at the Shanghai International Lighting Fair also agreed that the IGB platform can help various sectors to promote mutual development. Mr Zhang Ningyu, Connected Lighting Senior Scientist of Philips research China, said: “There is definitely a delicate relationship between the lighting fair and building fair. It is a brilliant idea to hold the two fairs concurrently. As the intelligent concept and products become more popular, lighting and building will further bond together. The development of smart lighting and smart building will influence each other.”
Inaugural “#IGB_NETWORK” event promoted cross-sector exchange
An “#IGB_NETWORK” event was organised by the IGB platform in the afternoon of 23 September. Influential professionals from the smart home, intelligent building, building automation, HVAC, lighting and building solar sectors attended the event. They freely exchanged ideas on building efficiency and sustainability in a casual environment.
Participating guests, included the chairmen and chief secretaries of significant international and domestic trade associations and standards organisations, leaders and experts from renowned building enterprises, colleges and universities, design institutes and trade media, appreciated the networking opportunities.
Mr Wang Zheng, Uhome Operation Director of Haier Smart Home Beijing Innovation Centre, remarked: “This networking event is great for making new acquaintances. It enables me to gain deeper knowledge about other fields I am unfamiliar with through cross-sector communication.”
Mr Chen Yanshen, Vice President and Secretary General Senior Engineer at the China Association of Lighting Industry, expressed: “The format of this gathering is quite new. It provides a good atmosphere for cross-sector communication by grouping people from different industries together. ‘Intelligence’ is a hot topic now and we are talking about intelligent manufacturing and smart home, while in the lighting industry, intelligent lighting is the future trend and part of smart home. The IGB platform is efficient in building up cross-sector exchange and collaboration. Integrating intelligent lighting into the smart home and intelligent building sector enhances overall ambience and users’ product experiences.”
Mr Liu Dong, Deputy Dean of Sino-Italian Campus and Director of the Test Centre of Air Conditioning Ventilation Gas and Thermal Engineering at Tongji University, shared: “The networking event is a good activity for us to learn from and exchange information with each other. It helps to formulate better total solutions for a healthy, comfortable and intelligent indoor environment. Personally, this gathering is very helpful to me. My major study is heating engineering and here, I can get in touch with experts in electrical engineering and lighting. It is inspiring from both the industrial and personal level to learn about the integration of the lighting environment, living environment and heating environment.”
Mr Tom Owens, Director of International Development at the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA), commented that the “#IGB_NETWORK” event was a great way to start off the shows. He mentioned: “There are a lot of professionals that believe in the same things. The networking event is a great way to create partnerships and build new relationships.”
