The WAH Center (Williamsburg Art & Historical Center) hosted an opening reception for the exhibit of personified dog sculptures—“The Dog’s Notes” by artist, Poren Huang this Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 4pm-6pm.
More than 200 people were in attendance to see the work of the internationally renowned Taiwanese artist whose collection will remain on display in New York until December 6, 2015.
While sipping on champagne and enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres, art lovers, media, and fellow artists explored the multifaceted works of Mr. Huang. The artist was on-hand to answer questions, pose for pictures, and autograph books of his work.
Huang launched “The Dog’s Notes” sculpture series in 2005 and used dogs as a creative starting points from which he created statues suggestive of humans. About 90% of his works borrow from the dog to explore various human behaviors. Huang’s goal is to use the dog as a creative theme to convey positive traits of people such as self-confidence, courage, loyalty or innocence.
In conjunction with this debut, Yuko Nii, Founder & Artistic Director of the WAH Center held open calls for local artists to submit their artwork of dogs. This collection of paintings, photographs, and mixed media art will also be on display until December 6.
“I am honored to bring my collection to New York,” said Huang in a speech he gave during the debut event on Saturday. “I am so glad that I am able to share my art with you today, and I hope you will come back to share this collection with your loved ones. After all, I want my collection to emotionally inspire my fans!” He exclaimed.

About Poren Huang
Taiwanese sculptor Poren Huang was born in Taichung County, located in central Taiwan. In his youth, he majored in sculpture at Fu-Hsin Trade & Art School. His metal creations are incorporated into Taiwan’s high school art textbooks. “The Dog’s Notes’ series is his representative work. This series was created in 2005 and has been exhibited in several important cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, and Taipei. Poren Huang is a significant Chinese Contemporary artist.
