The New Supermarket Association of Japan [Head Office: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, President: Kiyoshi Yokoyama (CEO of ARCS COMPANY, LIMITED)] will hold the 50th SUPERMARKET TRADE SHOW 2016 from February 10 (Wed) to 12 (Fri), 2016, in both the East and the West halls of Tokyo Big Sight. The event provides a venue to disseminate the latest information on supermarkets and the distribution industry.
With the environment surrounding supermarkets in a state of constant change, a diverse range of issues are coming into focus—from the increase in consumption tax, labor shortages in the retail industry, responding to inbound consumption, and other local problems, to more global issues such as the TPP and the weak yen.
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the tradeshow, which has continued to play a key role in finding solutions to such varied issues. Setting forth "SOU NIPPON – Creation Japan" as the main theme, we hope the tradeshow will contribute to the building of abundant regional communities in Japan through the efforts of the exhibitors and visitors from throughout the country.
With 1,884 companies and organizations exhibiting and 3,389 booths (current as of November 9, 2015) the tradeshow will surpass the previous year in scale. This year, over 1,177 companies will exhibit due to the coordination of municipalities and local financial institutions from across Japan. With the first exhibition by the Embassy of Colombia in addition to the USA Pavilion directly contracted by the United States Department of Agriculture, a total of 152 overseas companies from 16 countries are participating with 85 booths, introducing a wide selection of products from various countries.
Since the venue extends over both the East and the West halls of the Tokyo Big Sight, various measures have been put in place to facilitate business discussions, such as zoning the exhibition into different categories, and establishing information counters to give guidance on the location of booths. The provision of a “SMTS/DTS Product Search” function on the official website from mid-December is an initiative carried over Exhibition and business meeting event providing the latest information to supermarkets and the food distribution industry from the previous year. Exhibited products and exhibitor information will be steadily released on the website. Visitors are able to make preparations for a more targeted experience by searching for the positions of booths of interest on a map of the venue prior to the event.
Display-type planning areas, presentations by exhibitors, and various highly specialized lectures and panel discussions on a stage in the West Hall Atrium will be facilitated by the Organizer’s Project.
Furthermore, four specialist exhibitions will be held together under the comprehensive title FOOD TABLE in JAPAN: ORGANIC EXPO together with BIOFACH JAPAN; the 11th Kodawari Food Fair 2016; Delicatessen Trade Show 2016; and GAISYOKU FOODTABLE 2016. With a scale 1.5 times that of the previous year and 100,000 visitors expected, the aim of these exhibitions will be to produce new innovation and contribute to the development of the Japanese food industry by enabling the mutual exchange of information between visitors and exhibitors in various industries and business categories, crossing over the barriers of retailers, home-meal replacement suppliers, restaurant and organic industries. We look forward to seeing you at the event.
