BANGKOK --(ASIA TODAY)-- The inaugural conference and exhibition reflects Thailands potential as a regional hub for energy sustainability
The inaugural Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia 2016, or SETA 2016, officially opens today (Mar. 23, 2016) in Bangkok as an exhibition & conference developed specifically for international, governmental and industrial discussions and collaboration on developing sustainable energy policies for the region's future economic development. The 3-day conference is supported at a great deal by the Ministry of Energy of Thailand and various governmental and private organizations and aligns with Thailand's long term master plan for energy sector development under the so called Thailand Integrated Energy Blueprint, or TIEB, which aims for energy security and sustainability.
The official opening ceremony of SETA 2016 is chaired by Thailand Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong, with H.E. General Anantaporn Kanjanarat, Energy Minister of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Ormsin Chivapruck, Deputy Minister of Transport of Thailand and H.E. H.E. Air Chief Marshal Prajin said that as policy a maker and a regulator of energy matters in Thailand, the Ministry of Energy is working to achieve the balance of energy consumption and security of electrical systems of the country. The focuses are on electricity generating systems, transmission systems, and distribution systems
as well as distribution of a variety of fuels. The Ministry is trying to keep the prices of energy at a reasonable level while reflecting real costs of energy for the benefit of consumers while also prevent the energy prices from obstructing long-term development of the country. Efforts have also been made to minimize environmental impacts and reduce CO2 emissions by promoting renewable electricity generation and energy saving to reduce global warming while bring about sustainable development.
Energy Minister General Anantaporn said that at this event provide a great opportunity for Thailand to update both domestic and international stakeholders about the development and investment opportunity in the national energy sector. Thailand will share with related local and international participated public and private organizations the nation's first long term master plan for Thai energy sector so called Thailand Integrated Energy Blueprint, or TIEB. The initiative, which covering from 2015-2036, exhibits the country's energy pathway of development in corresponding to the global movement toward greenhouse gas emission reduction against the climate change and environment problem while also focus on building the energy security and sustainability for the country.
"The Ministry of Energy provides a full support to this valuable event which will reflect the readiness of and potential of Thailand, both for technical-wise and human resources, for becoming the center of sustainable energy in the region" General Anataporn said.
SETA 2016 provides a great opportunity for Thailand to show the potential and advancement in national energy development. The event features technical seminar covering more than 100 topics under four main themes; Energy Policy and Planning, Electrical Systems Technology, Transportation and Alternative Fuels and Sustainable Energy and Green Technology. There is also an exhibition platform where governmental and private organizations and companies exhibit state-of-the art technology and innovations such as electricity generating technology, alternative fuels and transportation technology and green technology.
Highlights will be found at the conference include the demonstration of MIRAI hydrogen fuel cell vehicle by Toyota Motor Corporation which develop the car to cope with increasing concern on the environment and global warming problems as this electric powered vehicle runs with the motor powered by the electricity produced from the chemical reaction of the hydrogen and most importantly the emission is not a gas but only water. Apart from the exhibition is the side events that demonstrate the regional cooperation such as the APEC self-funded workshop on nuclear power entitled "Is Nuclear Power Still a Viable Option for Procuring Low-Carbon Electricity Generation in the Future?", the solar power energy seminar, the seminar on electricity vehicle, and a workshop on "Electricity Peak Demand Response Readiness and Preparedness 2016" co-organised by Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO), Ministry of Energy, Thailand.
SETA 2016 proved a great success as more than 1,000 visitors from 35 countries in Asia, Europe and the U.S. have registered to attend the show while more than 250 business matching deals are expected to take place at the event. For more information, please visit www.seta.asia
