Klang, 10 April 2016 --(ASIA TODAY)-- The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF)’s 12th Patient Forum returned to the Klang Valley today for the first time since 2007 after successful forums had been held in many of the major towns through-out Peninsular Malaysia and across to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu in East Malaysia
With the participation of close to 400 individuals, this Forum was another resounding success for NKF. Under its theme “Improving the Quality of Your Life” the Forum provided an invaluable platform for dialysis patients and their care-givers to get together to exchange ideas, to be aware of the avenues in getting financial assistance and to draw inspiration for life to be carried on.
Speaking at the officiating ceremony, Dr. J. D. John, the Chairman of the NKF Patients’ Selection and Welfare Committee as well as the Chairman of the 12th Patient Forum Organising Committee said, “We believe that upon a return to Selangor, it is apt to have the Forum in Klang. It would certainly help bring vital information to the residents around here and the surrounding areas.”
The Chairman of the NKF Board of Directors, YBhg Dato’ Dr. Zaki Morad bin Mohd Zaher in his speech served a quick reminder to guests, “The NKF’s drive to aiding patients to at least enjoy the sessions and get all the knowledge for a manageable life are realized in part through this Forum and hopefully after this, patients will have a clearer idea on healthier lifestyles as well as the various support systems through the NKF.”
Officiating the forum was YB Puan Dr. Daroyah Binti Alwi, the Chairman of the Health, Welfare, Women And Family Affairs Committee in the Selangor State Executive Council. In her speech, YB Puan Dr. said, “This Forum serves as a landmark of commitment reflecting NKF’s constant focus to further aid kidney patients in Malaysia as well as to improve their lives.”
“It is also important for the general public to be aware of such a health hazard so as to prevent kidney-related diseases and move forward as healthier Malaysians.”
Held in Premiere Hotel, the 12th NKF Patient Forum featured expert speakers ranging from nephrologists, welfare officers and to even a dietician as well as a motivator to engage not only patients from NKF but also patients from other NGOs, private dialysis centres and government hospitals. The topics presented were relevant to them so that they understood their situation better and knew where and whom to look for when they need assistance. In the process it is hoped that they will improve the quality of their lives.
Goody bags with products sponsored by Hwa Tai and Nestle Health Science were given to those who registered for the Forum, while participating patients in addition received an umbrella each.
Outside the hotel was parked a NKF LifeCheck bus to carry out free health screenings as guests and participants alike took the opportunity in getting their blood pressure, urine tests, blood glucose, and others checked.
At the site of the Forum six booths were set up by Selangor State Government Agencies/Bantuan Sihat Selangor, Perkeso, Nestle Health Science, Vista Eye Specialist, KPJ (Foot Check) and NKF Public Education Department (PED) to display their products and services.
