POWER-GEN India & Central Asia Conference & Exhibition
18-20 May 2016 | Pragati Maidan | New Delhi, India

The Republic of India is now one of the fastest growing economies in the world and is recognized as one of the most attractive destinations for foreign investment. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), energy use in India has almost doubled since 2000, and economic growth and targeted policies have lifted millions out of extreme poverty.

India is in the early stages of a major transformation; bringing new opportunities to its 1.3 billion people. IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said that India is expected to contribute more than any other country to the rise in global energy demand over the next 25 years. To meet rising energy demands and to secure a lower-carbon sustainable future, Indian policy makers are making efforts to remove obstacles for investment in energy supply. Faith Birol said, “India’s energy transformation requires three things: investment, investment and investment.”

Against this backdrop, the POWER-GEN India & Central Asia Conference and Exhibition strives to bring together industry experts from India and from around the world to exchange knowledge and share ideas about best practices and new technology developments, with the aim of providing low-carbon and sustainable solutions for the Indian power sector. The 15th annual POWER-GEN India & Central Asia will return to the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, India on 18-20 May 2016 under the theme ALL POWER: CLEANER, LEANER, GREENER.

As the region’s leading clean energy event, POWER-GEN India & Central Asia is renowned for being the premier platform for meeting major players in the Indian and international power sectors. The event provides attendees with unrivalled opportunity to network with 5,500+ industry professionals, discover the latest technologies from 200+ exhibitors, and learn from a multi-track conference, featuring 75+ speakers. Attendees will benefit from the numerous business opportunities that exist as India moves towards the centre stage of world energy.

India’s Energy Mix

India has the third-largest hard coal reserves in the world, and coal will remain the backbone of the Indian power sector, accounting accounts for close to 70% of generation. This means that the development of modern coal technology will be critical if India is to provide enough affordable electricity to its growing population and at the same time cut carbon emissions.

Renewable energy has a pivotal role as India seeks to ultimately transform its power generation system into one that is low-carbon. Prime Minister Modi’s government last year set an ambitious target of 175,000 MW of new renewable energy capacity by 2022 (100,000 GW of solar, 60,000 MW of wind and 15,000 MW of biomass).

Ashish Sethia of Bloomberg New Energy Finance said that for India to fulfil its renewable energy targets, $20bn of capital will need to come into the market each year.

To generate electricity and provide access to the poor the government must include renewable sources in the power mix. Investing in renewable energy would enable India to develop globally competitive industries and technologies that can provide new opportunities for growth.

Dr Birol said ‘India needs to have a balanced energy mix of coal, natural gas, renewables and nuclear," This is why POWER-GEN India & Central Asia is the must-attend event for the Indian power industry. Unlike other domestic events in India, it covers all aspects of power generation – renewables, fossil fuels and nuclear energy – under one roof, highlighting the vital importance of a modern, balanced energy mix to meet this South Asian nation’s growing energy demands.

The comprehensive conference programme, with two tracks dedicated to conventional power and renewables, feature high-calibre speakers from India and internationally, who will discuss the use of clean energy technologies and how to achieve efficient and reliable energy access for all the population.

Conference sessions include:

• Future Thermal Power Generation
• Ensuring Renewable Projects' Bankability
• Advanced Gas-Fired Power Generation Solutions
• Renewables Integration and Energy Storage
• Nuclear's Role in a Low-Carbon India
• Hydro & New Technologies

It is a “Must-Attend” event for everyone associated and concerned with power and energy’.
