The Trade Show distinguishes businesses and institutions through the 2016 Awards to Best Stands, to Best Active Tourism Products and to best tourism-related academic research paper
Madrid, 18 May 2016 -- (ASIA TODAY) -- FITUR, the International Tourism Fair, has presented the awards to Best Stands, to Best Active Tourism Products and the Tribuna FITUR-Jorge Vila Fradera Award corresponding to its latest staging. The announcement of the awards was made at the Trade Show, which was held from 20 to 24 January at FERIA DE MADRID. Through these awards FITUR seeks to promote excellence and innovation in tourism, recognising the effort made by businesses, professionals and researchers in promoting the industry’s image, creating new products that diversify the offer, contributing to sustainable development and researching to drive forward this market’s evolution through knowledge and analysis.
The event, which was presided over by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel María Borrego, was attended by the Chairman of the IFEMA Governing Board, Luís Cueto; the President of the FITUR Organising Committee, Luís Gallego; the Managing Director of IFEMA, Fermín Lucas, and the Director of the International Tourism Fair, Ana Larrañaga.
At this staging of Best Stands –in the countries category– the awards went to Japan, Nepal, Mexico and Kerala (India), this last one distinguished with a mention; in the autonomous regions section they went to La Rioja, Navarre and Aragón and, in the companies section, to Trasmediterranea, Meliá Hotels International, Iberia and Kananga (this last one merited a special mention).
Through the Best Active Tourism Product Competition, FITUR, in collaboration with Aire Libre magazine, seeks to advance the development and marketing of the tourism industry and to thrust the highest-quality tourism products to the forefront. The award-winners of this 21st staging of the Competition were the following: in the National Category, Adventure Modality, the award went to “The Great Pyrenean Adventure” (Lérida); in Nature, “Aventura en Andalucía” (Adventure in Andalusia) (Huelva) took the prize; the “Socio-Cultural Activation Contest” (Alicante) won the distinction in the Culture Modality and, lastly, in Wine and Gastronomy the award went to “Otoño Gastronómico” (Gastronomic Autumn) (Galicia). A Special Mention was also presented to “Villas de Madrid”.
In the international recognitions, “Caminos de Oro, de Caminos de Osa” (Costa Rica) was recognised in the Adventure Modality; the products of “Forest Selfness” (Slovenia) were distinguished in Nature and “The sensuality of convent cuisine” (Mexico) was recognised in Wine and Gastronomy. The Jury also awarded a special mention to “À-la-carte trekking in Morocco and on a dromedary adapted for users with reduced mobility” (Morocco).
Lastly, FITUR 2016 saw the announcement of the 17th edition of the Tribuna FITUR-Jorge Vila Fradera Award, which seeks to recognise the best academic research paper associated with the tourism industry. On this occasion the distinction was awarded to “La colaboración público – privada en los entes mixtos de gestión y promociones turísticas. La visión de los socios públicos y privados” (“Public-private partnership between mixed tourism management and promotion bodies. The vision of public and private partners”) by Joan-Carles Cambrils Camarena. This study formulates an analysis of public-private bodies managing wide-ranging tourism areas in local Spanish destinations.
