State-of-the-art new facilities set to attract more major conferences and events to Hong Kong

(Hong Kong, 10 December 2012) AsiaWorld-Expo – Asia’s leading exhibition, convention and events venue – presents new major convention spaces for Hong Kong: Runway 11 and Runway Suites series to meet today’s strong market demand for flexible event facilities. The sophisticated Runway 11 and Runway Suites series will help attract even more international conferences and events to Hong Kong, building on the exceptional growth that the local MICE industry already enjoys. In this regard, the MICE industry is very pleased to see that AsiaWorld-Expo has brought new conference spaces to Hong Kong.

With Mr Vincent Fung, Assistant Commissioner for Tourism, as the officiating guest of the launch ceremony of Runway 11 and Runway Suites series today, Mr H.W. Lau, Chief Operating Officer, AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited; Mr George Wang, Chief Commercial Officer, AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited; Mr Daniel Cheung, Chairman of HKECIA; Mr Stanley Chu, Honorary Life President of HKECIA; Mr Kenneth Wong, General Manager for MICE & Cruise, Hong Kong Tourism Board; and Mr Peter Sih, Director of Sales & Marketing, Hong Kong SkyCity Marriot Hotel also attended the ceremony.

The growing visitor number reflects Hong Kong’s importance as a destination for regional and international events. AsiaWorld-Expo’s world-class convention facilities, including AsiaWorld-Arena – Hong Kong’s biggest purpose-built indoor seated arena with a maximum capacity of 14,000 as well as AsiaWorld-Summit – Hong Kong’s largest indoor convention and hospitality hall, have attracted a large number of major international conferences to come to Hong Kong such as the Nu Skin Greater China Regional Convention 2012 in which over 20,000 delegates from all over the world participated in June at AsiaWorld-Expo. By investing in a new series of flexible, sound-proof Runway 11 and Runway Suites series, AsiaWorld-Expo is set to become even more attractive for events across all industries, particularly for content-rich programmes that require multiple meeting spaces of various sizes.

“We are pleased that our Runway 11 and Runway Suites series have provided new major convention spaces for Hong Kong and are very much welcomed by the MICE industry with a view to attracting more international conferences and events to Hong Kong,” remarked Mr Allen Ha, Chief Executive Officer of AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited. “Hong Kong’s MICE industry is a major engine of economic growth. And this has been reflected in the business performance of AsiaWorld-Expo. In the financial year of 2011-2012, the number of large-scale EXPOtainment events hosted at the venue and the total metreage sold increased by over 20%. Looking ahead, we expect to sustain strong growth throughout 2012,” added Mr Ha.

World-class new facilities
The new Runway Suites at AsiaWorld-Expo boast up to 10 rooms and offer unprecedented flexibility, each capable of seating between 80 and 200 people in a theatre set-up. All rooms are fully carpeted and offer excellent sound-proofing as well as a full range of audio-visual technologies.

Complemented by the venue’s award-winning F&B team, these new Runway Suites make AsiaWorld-Expo the ideal choice for any large-scale conference wanting a one-stop solution for all its events’ needs.

“The Government is delighted to see more meetings and convention facilities are made available at AsiaWorld-Expo,” remarked Mr Philip Yung, Commissioner for Tourism. “With these new facilities, the venue will certainly be able to accomplish even more in the years to come. We look forward to cooperating further with the AsiaWorld-Expo and other stakeholders to ensure the local MICE industry continues to prosper.”

“The flexible configuration of the Runway Suites will perfectly complement events of various sizes,” added Mr Robin Lokerman, President of MCI Group Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, one of Asia’s leading event planners. “We are pleased to see that AsiaWorld-Expo offers such a practical solution that will definitely provide event planners, like ourselves, the competitive edge to bid for international conferences.”

The future is looking bright
Looking to the future, AsiaWorld-Expo is set to enjoy sustained market growth in tandem with the emerging Pearl River Delta (PRD) region.

Fully integrated with the award-winning Hong Kong International Airport, and soon to be served by a groundbreaking new transportation system linking Hong Kong, Macau and the PRD in a region-wide commute of one hour, AsiaWorld-Expo is establishing itself as the world’s undisputed gateway to an economic powerhouse. With its unique location at the heart of the PRD region, AsiaWorld-Expo will become one of the world’s most important MICE venues.
