SHANGHAI --(ASIA TODAY)-- Oriental Culture Zone spices up Paperworld China 2016 Debuting in the last edition, Oriental Culture, the special zone of Paperworld China, will return to the fair again this year with expanded portfolio and larger scale. Running from 20 – 22 September 2016, Paperworld China will showcase the latest products for stationery, office supplies, hobby and crafts. While it’s special zone, Oriental Culture Zone, will feature paper products, four treasures of study (i.e. brush, ink, paper, rubbing stone), festive items and more that highlight the integration of design and cultural symbols, as well as techniques and elements of the East.

One of the focuses in Oriental Culture will be the Asian designers’ alliance led by Ms Judy Lo. Ms Lo is a renowned award-winning Taiwan based designer. She is eager to promote eastern cultural design and Chinese designer brands through this international platform. Participating brands from Taiwan will include afterain, CiChi, Cuckoo, danzo, Hey sheng, Kimu, mr. sheep, Pin Collection, woo collective, Yamakawa and ystudio. These brands are expected to promote their design concepts and products to 23,000 buyers at Paperworld China.

“Messe Frankfurt is a well-known trade fair organiser and it emphasises business effectiveness. To designers, the Oriental Culture Zone is full of opportunities. At the same time, it is challenging for us to consider production quantity and other issues instead of just focusing on quality of design and materials,” said Ms Lo. The direct connections with customers allow designers to provide more precise and quality ideas, which result in business collaboration. With keen support from Art Exhibitions China, the organisation responsible for cultural heritage exhibitions in museums in China, museum representatives are invited to source for souvenirs and merchandise, generate new ideas and meet talented designers at the show. Moreover, people from theme parks, hotels, resorts and the leisure industry are also welcome to join, to collect new ideas for corporate gifts and souvenirs.

Arts, products and design concept with Asian appeal have become a global trend in recent years. In 2015, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York featured a theme exhibition called China: Through the Looking Glass. The exhibition resulted in record attendance. Ms Lo agreed that the Eastern culture design is gaining momentum in the international stage. She explained: “Eastern culture does not just make use of the materials, but merging culture into the design. With the same materials, we can display a different exquisite feel from the western designers. We can reveal the eastern ingenuity through our works.”

Running its 12th edition, Paperworld China is expected to welcome 460 exhibitors. In addition to the Oriental Culture Zone, the fair also highlights the Creative Pavilion, which is dedicated to hobby & crafts and artist supplies. Once again, excellent handcrafts made with products of exhibitors will be displayed at Creative Galleria, a display area in the Creative Pavilion, to compete for 16 popularity awards. Visitors can vote for their favourite items from various categories such as embroidery, paper craft, leather products and drawing.

Paperworld China is jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd, the China Chamber of Commerce for I/E of Light Industrial Products & Arts-Crafts and Guangzhou Foreign Trade South China Exhibition Corp Ltd.
