Muscat, Oman --(ASIA TODAY)--The halal food sector is becoming a major source of growth in both the Islamic and wider global economy. According to the State of Global Islamic Economy 2015-2016 report, the global Muslim spending on food and beverage increased by 4.3 per cent in 2014, taking the potential core halal food market to be 16.7 percent of global expenditure.
Aimed at raising awareness about the potential of the halal food sector in the region, pioneer exhibitions and conferences organiser Omanexpo is holding the first-ever halal workshop in conjunction with the long-running Food and Hospitality Oman Exhibition on September 21 at the Oman International Exhibition Center.

Moderators of the full-day Halal workshop include Asad Sajjad, chief executive officer at Gulf Halal Center, International Halal Center, Halal Development Council and HDCMICE Middle East together with Mufti Zeeshan Abdul Aziz, chairman at Shariah Board, Gulf Halal Center along with other Halal experts who will facilitate the Halal workshop.
Sajjad has been working as a Halal Agenda Promoter since 2008, speaking about the ‘Importance of Halal Certification’ and the ‘Benefits of Halal Certified’ exports from OIC exports for the OIC countries, opening the doors to the trillion-dollar global halal market.
Mufti Zeeshan Abdul Aziz has performed around 250 halal certification audits of different food, beverage, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries in different parts of the Middle East, South East Asia and Far East.
The Halal workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to interact with key halal food players, discuss the importance of halal certification and branding and tackle issues pertaining to food safety, healthcare and sustainability.
Participants will learn more about the basic concepts of halal and requirements, the importance of proper sourcing of raw materials and production of halal food products; the haram ingredients which are prohibited in the Iaws of Islam; the global halal market, the main players and halal tourism.
