SEOUL, KOREA --(ASIA TODAY)-- Asia’s premier electric energy industry event, Asia Power Week, comprising POWER‐GEN Asia, Renewable Energy World Asia and the POWER‐GEN Asia Financial Forum held a press conference in Seoul on 24 August 2016 to formally showcase the 24th annual event, taking place outside of the ASEAN region for the first time in more than a decade.

Organised by global event expert PennWell Corporation, Asia Power Week takes place on 20‐22 September at KINTEX, Gyeonggi‐do, under the theme of “Exchanging Knowledge – Generating Solutions”, and is set to attract more than 8,000 attendees from around with the world.

The press conference, hosted by Asia Power Week Director, Dr. Heather Johnstone, included a presentation on the history of PennWell, the significance of Asia Power Week to the Korean marketplace and wider Asian region, plus further information upon the content and opportunities the event provides. Alongside Dr. Johnstone was Professor Kim Hee Jip, Co‐Chairman of MOTIE’s Energy New Industry Committee and Visiting Professor at Seoul National University’s School of Engineering, remarking that Asia Power Week provides an important and timely international platform for discussions on the major issues influencing the power generation industry and importantly the future direction of the sector.

Professor Kim stated, “The fundamental transformation in how we generate electricity will be in the forefront of the minds of attendees in the conversations, discussions and debates they will have with their peers. The challenge this presents for the industry and the energy policy‐makers should not be under‐estimated and underlines the importance of staging events such as Asia Power Week, which can bring together the key stakeholders under one roof. Here in South Korea, we have ambitious plans and are working in partnership with many of our neighbours to help transition Asia to a lower‐carbon, sustainable energy future. The Energy New Industry strategy, for example, is fundamental to our country’s energy future from
both an environmental and economic perspective. The strategy, which will be implemented until 2030, aims to reduce carbon emissions by 55 million tonnes, establish a market for new energy businesses worth 100 trillion won and create half a million jobs.”

Asia Power Week will provide Korean industry professionals the opportunity to meet other professionals from Europe, the US and other Asian nations, enabling the all‐important exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences. Asia Power Week also provides an opportunity for Korean companies to showcase their technological expertise to the international power community, with the event Under the Patronage of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), KEPCO as Host Utility and Officially Supported by KOWEPO, EWP, KOEN, KOMIPO, KOSPO and KHNP.

The three‐day event also includes a world‐class exhibition hall boasting over 200 of the industry’s leading players from around the world, offering a vital business and networking opportunity, as well as the ability to view the latest industry technologies and developmental advancements.

“In recent years, we have seen the involvement of Korean companies in Asia Power Week steadily grow. Interestingly, we have seen a similar trend with several of our other POWER‐GEN events, including a Korean pavilion at our recent POWERP‐GEN Europe event. From our perspective, this is fantastic to see, and we are equally thrilled to have Doosan Heavy Industries as our Gold Sponsor of Asia Power Week. We have had the privilege of working with Doosan at our POWER‐GEN events right across the world for many years. We are also absolutely delighted that Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, Samsung Control Valve Co Ltd, and Hanwha Group’s subsidiary, Hanwha Techwin Co. Ltd are joining us this year, as well as several Korean SMEs, such as Daeyoung C&E Co. Ltd, DongHwa Entec and Hanbek Corp, and also two Korean Pavilions with both pavilions coming under the auspices of the Korea Electric Manufacturers’ Cooperative.” said Dr. Johnstone.

Asia Power Week provides the power generation industry with a one‐of‐a‐kind event, With three unique conferences, Asia Power Week, via POWER‐GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia, brings together industry‐leading speakers to discuss both from a strategic and a technological viewpoint the key issues facing conventional power generation, including nuclear and renewable energy in the region. Added to this the POWER‐GEN Asia Financial Forum, which is a platform that brings together investors and financing institutions to discuss all‐ things to do with investing in power projects, such as funding trends in the region and new financing models.

Dr. Johnstone concludes, “With the extensive global footprint of our POWER‐GEN brand we are able to bring a truly international audience to Asia Power Week. For example, at last year’s event in Bangkok, we had 85 different countries represented. Plus, with the event comprising of three conferences plus an high‐class exhibition floor, it enables us to reach financiers, developers, power generators and equipment suppliers to network, do business and share knowledge across the whole spectrum of the industry. We therefore look forward to welcoming the industry to KINTEX in September for what is sure to be a vital event in the power industry calendar.”
