Muscat, Oman, Dec. 14, 2013 - ASIA TODAY - Omanexpo registered a record-high of over 40,000 visitors at the 16th Oman International Motor Show, which was held from December 11 to 14 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre. The number exceeded 2010’s count of 30,000.

Motoring enthusiasts and car aficionados eager to get a firsthand and closeup view of the interesting display of various car models such as Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Hummer, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Mini Cooper, Mitsubishi and Toyota, the engaging lineup of classic cars, and Oman motor sports champion Ahmad Al Harthy’s actual race car, doubled in thousands on the last day as Omanexpo pulled down the curtains on another highly successful event and the grandest automotive event to date.

This year’s Motor Show saw the launch of the Outdoor Adventure Zone, which featured, also for the first time, Red Bull FMX shows with Red Bull athletes Nick de Wit and Frederic Berggren, who displayed their rare skill in death-defying stunts on all four days of the event. The Adventure Zone also featured the Mitsubishi driving challenge and drifting demonstrations organized by the Oman Evo Team, which were sure hits with the crowd. Road safety demonstrations by the ROP and Civil Defense also served to amaze the thousands of spectators, while educating them about safe driving.

The fifth round of the Oman Rally Championship 2012 was also held on Thursday and Friday, a highly anticipated event that also emphasizes road safety.

Motor Show Oman was formally opened on December 11 through an innovative groundbreaking ceremony that had the celebrity chief guests led by Hamed Al Wahaibi, Ahmad Al Harthy, Abdullah Sulaiman Al Rawahi, Sanad Sulaiman Al Rawahi and Haitham Al Saqri sign a Safety First pledge board.

First organized in 1990, Motor Show Oman pioneered other car shows in Oman and is recognized as the Sultanate’s landmark automotive exhibition. It received international status as a UFI-approved event in 2009.

The show’s main sponsors are Shell Helix, 3M, Mohamad & Ahmed Al Khonji, V-Kool, Sayarti, and Atlantic Grease & Lubricants.
